What worked and what didn't -- SJPDP to Finisterre, Sep 15

I loved your list and assessments. Nice to read advice that's so straightforward. Whenever I encounter a knowitall I head elsewhere, but I read yours through to the end. I highly recommend it to those in the planning stages.

    Wi-Fi or no WiFi?

I think most of those super long and complex passwords are only in place because the management doesn't understand how easy it is to reset the password. They're no so much worried about unauthorized usage as technologically behind the times. Bill

iMiam app: Miam Miam Dodo for iPhone

After using the iMiam app for Le Puy to SJPP in Sept/Oct 2013, I sent an email to the folks at MMDD with some complaints and suggestions. I hope others will do that too. Here's what I wrote: 1. Redesign the page d'acceuil. The white text superimposed on the fuzzy shell is difficult to read and...

    Apps for the camino

Yes the info is the same but there's the added functionality, like clicking on a phone number so u never have to dial and tracking your location on the trail with GPS. The one or two times you really lose the trail it's a lifesaver. See also...

    Apps for the camino

MMDD for Le Puy to SJPP was a great resource for me. If you plan to have phone service even when "offline" in terms of internet access, it's more valuable still. Bill

Telephones on the Le Puy Camino

I'll just report my experience. I brought my iPhone. I called my provider (Verizon) before I left and they -- not I -- did what was required to allow me to call the US from France and to make calls to French phone numbers. The rate was expensive at US 1.29/minute, but I only used it to make...

iMiam app: Miam Miam Dodo for iPhone

I think there are capabilities that can't be properly explored until one is on the route. If I start with the option "Acces aux plans" and then choose a map -- I just chose Plan 43 Lascabanes -- a new icon is highlighted at the bottom of the screen, something that looks like a signpost with...

iMiam app: Miam Miam Dodo for iPhone

I just upgraded my phone and lost the guide, but I was able to download it again without charge, so that's cool. I think I've noticed a few small updates, which is interesting. One of the advantages of electronics is the ability to provide ad hoc updates. Looks like I stumbled upon it.

iMiam app: Miam Miam Dodo for iPhone

You answered your own question, I think. The free app is the shell - think of it as your MMDD bookshelf. Then you purchase the guide or guides you want to put on the shelf for handy access.. It's just the fact that there's only one guide available at the moment that makes the app/shell seem...

iMiam app: Miam Miam Dodo for iPhone

Seymoursmum: The app is free. If that is what you have, you then have to use the app to display the map of France that shows a pindrop at Le Puy. If you click on that you are asked if you want to buy the guide. I was pretty puzzled too, especially a few weeks ago when I found my way to the...

iMiam app: Miam Miam Dodo for iPhone

Has anyone else purchased the application for iPhone "iMiam" covering the Le Puy to SJPP route? I'm enjoying experimenting with it, though it has some navigation issues and the interface is somewhat clunky. I'm fairly confidant I'll be able to leave the print version at home now. But I will be...

Looking put-together in cities - am I kidding myself?

I went out for tapas last year in Pamplona with 5 women. Everyone looked pretty well put together. The key was having something to wear in suitably dark tones, no neon blues or oranges. The Spanish don't care particularly, so that's not the issue. It's how you feel about yourself. I'm a city...

    Scallop shell patch

Thanks. How I hated that clackety clack of my shell.
