Is there the possibility to fit your poles inside your checked in baggage? I have flown with Veuling several times from Santiago to Barcelona using this method with no problems.
I have used my Deuter 30 + 5 pack for multiple Caminos. I find it to be very comfortable with padding and support in all the right places. Certainly, I have tested its durability and have been quite satisfied. Enjoy your Camino, whichever pack you choose!
I too love Salomon XA Pro walking shoes. I have gone through many pairs, each lasting more than 1000km. They are comfortable with grippy soles and I also appreciate the quick lace system. If they fit your foot, I would recommend their use.
We always prepare our own food despite the added weight penalty. This means that we carry a small camping burner along with fuel for times when the albergue is without a kitchen, a couple of light weight pots, dishes and basic utensils. Add to that a small bottle of cooking oil, a spice kit...
You will not regret having it. I always pack mine and more often than not, it is needed for washing clothing and sometimes dishes. An insignificant weight penalty for a useful item.
Like you, my husband also requires a large shoe size. He has been very happy walking several Camino routes using various trail shoes made by Columbia. You might want to check to see if any of their footwear choices will suit your needs.
Based on my experience, I was unable to add money to a Spanish Movistar SIM while in Portugal a few years ago. This was specific to Movistar as they do not offer service in Portugal.
As another option, I recently saw this design: https://trekkersfriend.com. Seems to offer a fair bit of flexibility in terms of its use and is lightweight.
In Spain, you can add wallapop.com. A huge range of second hand goods including sports equipment and clothing. I have purchased numerous Camino-related items there with no regrets.
While I don't know about a shop in Santiago, in Spain there is a very active site (and app), wallapop.com, where many people list used sporting equipment for sale (along with household items, etc.). It is possbile to search by location and, of course, for specific gear saught. Perhaps this...
I have always been happy to walk in Salomon X Ultra shoes. I have used them for many Caminos with no problems. However, you will not likely want to walk with a pair of worn shoes. I am not familiar with the Speedcross, so I don't know if they will be suitable.
Is it possible for you to remove the inserts (i.e., that came in the shoes when you bought them) in your trail runners before replacing them with your orthotics? Both my husband and I do this whenever we are walking a Camino. It has meant no foot pains for either of us, which could have been...
Question: How does one make a Collect Call from Spain to Canada (without any Spanish)?
As a Canadian living in Spain, I have discovered that it is not possible to make collect calls from Spain. This simply is not an option from a landline, a mobile or pay phone. Be prepared to call direct by...
I have used Salomon regular X Ultra shoes for many Caminos. I find I need to replace them following each Camino (of about 1000 km), especially as the soles become worn. They are still fine for city walks following the Camino but do not provide sufficient cushioning when the trail is stony or...
Thanks for your reply, Laurie. I am wondering if yours died as a result of using an electrical adapter rather than a converter? I'll keep looking to see if I can find one with Euro specs. I see them listed on Amazon Spain but will see if I can find one in a shop or a second hand on-line site.
