    What camera do you use?

Here's a youtube video from Hank to this general topic... it is about 5 years old... so his arguments should be true even more today. What my daughter missed on her camino for here fotos ( or short videos ) was the very lightweight tripod, that Hank mentions as well.

    Shoe problem

Here are some additional ideas for buying shoes: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/how-to-properly-size-and-fit-footwear-for-distance-walking-and-backpacking.73652/ Buy the shoes that fit best to your feet (not the most recommended shoes). Bring only one pair of walking shoes...

    Shoes vs boots (again)

I would take the option where you are more comfortable with. But I would not take both (because of the weight). Here is some background info from davebugg (especially the part with "studies on fatigue and footwear" was interesting for me)...

    Frameless packs

I would say that it is easier to adjust the backpack with a frame... but I cannot exactly explain it. You could walk a day with a frameless backpack and another day with a backpack with frame - each day with your planned camino weight... and then you could see what is more comfortable for you...

    Which size rucksack?

Here are some older threads about backpacks: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/the-backpack-proper-sizing-and-fitting-adjusting-a-backpack-for-wear.66298/ https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/backpack-help.49420/

    Ideas for equipment video

My current idea would be an equipment video for a possible camino if travelling to Spain would be allowed but the 'normal' pilgrim life is still not allowed ( albergues etc.). I would be very interested in this topic... on the other side it would be highly speculative about the conditions that...

Who has packed the lightest pack?

I think as a rule of thumb the 10% rule (do not pack more than 10% of your body weight) is okay. I think this rule of thumb is for "new" pilgrims that have never walked long distances with albergues before and have not thought much about it. And most of pilgrims really do not need to pack more...

    Did Pilgrims use iPhones?

I think smartphone usage is a controversial topic. But I have a funny story... I had many pilgrim dinner that were nice or wonderful. For example the dinner with a Spanish pilgrim in a lonely albergue on the Camino de Invierno... in spite of her non existing English and my rather limited...

    Did Pilgrims use iPhones?

Of course it is not necessary. I think you do not even need any maps on many caminos. You can just follow the yellow arrows... and talk to the people if you are not sure. Is a smartphone convenient? Yes, it is. Several times I walked and then I asked me... did I miss an arrow some hundred...

Water safety and treatment while walking

Other phrases for not drinkable... see this posting & thread: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/water-issue.55404/#post-621099

    Bladder vs water bottle

Here is another thread about this (or a similar) topic: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/water-bottle-adapter.64892/

If You have Walked the Camino - Do you prefer boots or trail runners?

I walked in the summer and liked my trailrunners. If a 'new' pilgrim looks for some background infos... davebugg wrote a very interesting post: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/help-selecting-boots-for-our-walk.56181/ (it is (much) easier to walk with light shoes if you do not...

    Water bottle adapter

I bought the bluedesert SmarTube (or the predecessor). I like the idea of using 'any' standard 0,5ltr-bottle with the drinking system and would buy it again. But... at the beginning the water tasted like plastic when I used the drinking system. So I was happy that I bought it months before my...

    Reading while on the Camino

It depends on the camino and the season for me. I walked Camino Aragones - Frances - Invierno in July & August... I was on my own in the albergues only for 2 times beside the fact that I was on lonelier caminos as well... so after walking and socializing I just fell into my bed most of the...

Thinking of buying Sony DSC-RX100 VI or Canon G5 X Mark II camera

Here's another quote for the smartphone-idea: It is Hank's comment in this thread (video): https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/hanks-camino-packing-list-ultralight-under-5-kg-10-lbs.53662/ He talks about his camera here (19m 48s):

Blister under callous on heel - do I ditch my shoes??

Compeed is dangerous if you do not really know what you are doing... and you probably do not really know it if you have to ask in a forum. If there is a problem that does not get "healed" with compeed... the blister can grow under the compeed... and you cannot remove the compeed because it...

Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

So probably they are not for you now, if you are young, healthy and fit enough. You do not need to carry the additional weight then... And if the time will come... hopefully not until many years have passed... and you think that you need assistance for walking... you can try it again... and...

    Shoes...1/2 or 1 size larger?

I bought a pair of shoes before my first camino which fitted well in the shop... on a test walk in Germany (colder weather than in Spain, probably less swelling) after about 25km my toes had hotspots between the toes... my feet were swollen a little bit and the shoes were not wide enough in the...

Inventing stuff to save you money

I took my smartphone and put it into my bum bag with the bottom half of the smartphone. I had a string to fix it. Smartphone light on! And with this I went before sunrise on several days (in the woods or without moon. Meseta and just moonlight is more fun, of course). Advantage: No additional...

    Shower shoes?

I had sandals for albergues that dried quickly.... so I used them in the shower whenever I wanted. But more often I did not use them in the shower but just went barefoot.
