Ok entering the shoe debate with trepidation ...

Go with what works for you. What works for others matters not.

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

My pack weighed in at just under 10 kilos. It took a lot of culling to get down to that. Not sure how I’d get down to 3 kilos. For sure no sleeping bag.

Can I reuse eSIM from 2022

No, they expire after six months. You can buy an ESIM on the Orange Travel website though. You can also top up from the web. No need to find an Orange store and then wait in line.

    Tips for Cold Weather Walking

I’ve spent most of my life in Minnesota. It gets cold here in winter. Layers are key. High-tech wicking fabrics close to the body, then Merino wool, then a down or synthetic insulation jacket. On colder days I also wear a Merino wool neck gaiter. Of course insulated gloves/mittens and a hat. A...

Backpack question: Ospreys Stratos 36L vs 44L?

Well, arguably I could have carried more, but given I had to walk 800km, I wasn’t taking chances. A 36l pack kept me from loading up.

Backpack question: Ospreys Stratos 36L vs 44L?

I walked with the Osprey Stratos 36l in 2015. It was a perfect size and was comfortable to wear. I still have it and continue to us it.

Sleeping bag or thermolite liner±silk liner ?

My sleeping bag weighs 768g. I walked the CF in the fall of 2015 with it. I’d bring it again. It was comforting at the end of the day to slip into my own sleeping bag.

    Sleeping bag versus puffy blanket

I agree, I like having my trusted sleeping bag between me and the mattress.

    Photography equipment?..

I walked in 2015 with my Nikon D800 and one lens…the 35mm f/1.8G prime lens. I’m happy I did. It can be done.

Open to criticism on my pack

I scanned in the pages of the Brierly guidebook. I could read it on my iPhone. Just an idea if you’re looking to save weight and space.

How to keep a digital travel journal - free?

I’ve used Weebly and Wordpress. Both have free levels and have good mobile apps that allow you to insert photos and videos. Sharing is easier with Wordpress

Backpack For Man w Broad Shoulders

I’m a big guy with broad shoulders and found the Osprey Stratos 36l pack to be a good fit. I made sure to get properly fitted at REI.

How do you secure your backpack from theft as checked luggage.

Just out of curiosity, why have you given up on putting it in the overhead? My 36l Osprey bag was fine as a carry-on bag in the overhead on my flight from Minneapolis to Paris. I put my sharp objects (poles, knife, etc.) in a shipping tube and checked that. Those I could easily replace if they...

Question for a winter camino for dry feet.

Sealskinz makes waterproof hiking socks, including cold weather versions. They seem worth looking into. REI carries them. Your feet are going to sweat and if they can't breathe I'd worry about blistering from moisture buildup. As someone who lives in a cold weather clime, I'd avoid putting...

Footwear for Walking the Camino de Santiago French Route

I ran the numbers on this based in the Brierley guidebook. I’ve attached a pdf. The answer is the 66% is on a path or track, 27% is on a quiet road and 7% is on a main road.

Hiking poles (please bear with me) need honest advice.

I don’t have any comments on hand swelling, but the number one reason for me to use poles are my knees. Trekking poles can help the knees out a lot on downhill stretches.
