    Good snack for the Hospitales

Peanut M&Ms individual snack packages. But when in Spain a slice of tortilla is heaven! All the different grocery stores sell their version of dark chocolate bars with almonds. It’s no secret why I always gain weight on the Camino.

    newbie seeking advice Camino Primitivo

Yes, I remember. That month was rainy and muddy and glorious. I wear WP with WP pants. It was very cold so kept my feet dry and warm. Everyone has a different opinion regarding WP shoes. I get blisters when my feet and shoes are sloshing wet. Buen Camino pixel! Let us know how it goes.

Detour to Santa Eulalia de Bóveda

Oh yes, Laurie, off topic please! Chestnut forest that’s all it takes. I will check it out and will provide an update once I am able to go! Thanks, Aymarah

Detour to Santa Eulalia de Bóveda

David, would you please elaborate more on which detour you chose after Lugo and about the terrain. I am hoping to walk this in April & trying to decide how to get to Bóveda. Thanks! Aymarah

    newbie seeking advice Camino Primitivo

The Primitivo was my first Camino in May 2019. I walked alone. It was not crowded but I met other Peregrinos including 3, who were also walking alone, and we have remained friends and went on to walk the Invierno together for different stages. It is beautiful, it is green and mountainous. It is...

    Primitivo - February 2024

Several pilgrims currently on the Primitivo are posting with pictures on this FB page: CAMINO PRIMITIVO. You may find it useful. Buen Camino.

Is Whatsapp enough on the Primitivo?

Esims also provide phone calls & text. 2 years ago I used an esim from Orange Holiday which was cheap and plentiful. Once I figured out, 48h later, how to get data (WiFi), it worked very well. This one had a French number. Since then I have popped in to a Vodafone store and had them install &...

Camino primitivo for my first Camino

Hi AndisPath! Good choice! The Primitivo was my first Camino, done in 2019. I was over 65, living at nearly below sea level, working full time with limited time to train. You most certainly will be successful. Yes, mountains. And hills that, for me, were more challenging due to the steep grade...

2018 chainsaw accident near La Espina, looking for Peregrino who saved his life

From Primitivo FB page posted by Maritere del Oso Castro for Juan Manuel del Oso (they both live in La Espina, near Bodenaya) who is looking for the Peregrino who saved his life in 2018. Spanish followed by Google translate into English, a little stilted yet understandable. Perhaps someone...

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Primitivo

Oh yes! The same thing happened to me. At the cluster of houses between the road and the official Camino to the left, 2 local women effusively encouraged me to go left. It of course started raining a lot. It was so steep, I thought I was gonna die, it was the first time I ever cried on the...

Getting into Oviedo late, best place to stay?

Also a Favila fan! Very close to the Camino. If you walk towards the train station on Calle Uria if you make a left unto Ave Santander there is a great coffee shop on the corner Cafeteria Santa Cristina that opens early. Hope you get to visit Mafalda en el Parque de San Francisco. Buen Camino!

The private Albergue a little down from the municipal has wonderful meals and a great melted cheese toast for breakfast. (I walk for food)😋😂 unconscionable 🥲

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Primitivo

I loved the walk into Tineo on the high road and the walk out of Tineo the next day. Por Hospitales, I found to not be so bad, and for you after walking El Salvador should be “muy llevadero”. The hard part for me was the descent on the wet jagged granite rocks. It rained all day. Walked it in a...

Stamping in Oviedo's Cathedral on a Saturday

In the past, I have been able to get a stamp on Sunday in the sacristy after Mass.

    Market

In Grau/Grado there is an ancient market dating from 1256 every Wednesday & Sunday from el Parque de Abajo hasta la plaza General Ponte. It is a lively well attended and well known market in Asturias filled with seasonal local produce, cider, cheeses, pastries, sweets, artesanal breads, and...

Bodenaya Albergue Update: Under New Ownership?

On Gronze just last week it showed Bodenaya was closed. This is Gronze from today. It no longer shows it as closed, but it has the old information. Does anyone know for sure?

    Restaurant recommendations for the Primitivo

This was one of my favorite places ever! The women who owned it were fabulous. They sponsored local Galego cultural & music groups. They closed, retired, during the pandemic.
