You seem to aim on being in Santiago on Sint James day. It will be the most busy week of the year and I suppost that will be the most busy week ever.
I would reserve for sure, or take another week for your camino.
Your birthday will be just in time. :-)
Although you can walk the primitivo all year (municipals and xunta albergues are open all year) most albergues stay open untill first of november.
There is a new camino going from O Cebreiro to Lugo called Via Kunig. With a track you can also walk it backwards.
Another possibility to avoid the Melide-SdC stretch is to go from the Primitivo indeed to the Norte. You don't need to end up in Arzua, but there are now also alternatives which...
Yes you can for sure. On some rare years there might be snow on the hospitales route, but we had already some rare years behind us. ;-) The weather can be anything between bad and beautiful.
Just know that in 2022, the week from the 10th of april on it will be semana santa. Many people in Spain...
It is dificult to say what the coming year will bring us exactly. It also depends on the maximum percentage of beds albergues can use. Last year beginning of august, there max capacity was only 30%, which made a huge shortage of beds.
As a hospitalero on the Primitivo I expect that it is...
Thanks LTfit for spreading the word.
At this moment I have the feeling that the situation is indeed even beyond booking ahead. My advice at this moment is: just don't go any more this august-holiday month, or at least stay on other smaller camino's out there and enter Galicia only next month.
If you are on a computer, you can copy them out of a PDF, then paste it in Google translate.
Most text will be quit easy to understand. Last sunday there was a recent update, check when you downloaded it.
Here is the translation what is written in top:
This file is made by the Dutch Society of...
In the Spanish section of this downloadpage of the Dutch Confraternity (with a google translate button on top) you will find a recently updated albergue list of the Primitivo. You can download it as PDF but also as a KML/GPX file to import it in apps like maps.me etc. On top of the downloadpage...
There are regular pilgrims with a dog walking the Primitivo. Last year there was even a Catalan group with about 15 dogs walking it... Besides we had about15 other dogs.
In our albergue (Ponte Ferreira, 27 kms after Lugo) dogs are welcome. Please phone and ask before we aways arrange something...
Between Lugo and Melide there wil be 2 xunta albergues open: in San Roman de Retorda (20 kms after Lugo) and As Seixas (33 kms after Lugo). As far as I know both will be open, but it is always good do check before.
All the albergues in Ferreira will be closed by then.
From Melide (47 kms...
You have started already. From Oviedo I expect it to go down from now on. You can always reserve one day ahead if you wish and will find out soon what the situation is.
Keep us informed! :)
Buen camino!
Numbers in august seem to be very high indeed. For the last few days also Ferreira (27kms after Lugo, on the last stretch before the connection to the Frances) has been almost full.
These dates should be no problem, it is getting much more quit by then.
And I think most hospitalero's will have a weak spot for geriatrics. 😉
If you do find it is quit busy, you can always start to reservate one day ahead.
We are still working on our website, this will be there for sure...
Thank you @peregrina2000 😇
Santa Eulalia de Boveda is indeed an amazing place, still difficult to believe that such a place is just there! The people from the village who open up the place whenever there are visitors are so nice!
Like @peregrina2000 wrote already, albergue Ponte Ferreira, 27 kms from Lugo.
I'm not 100% sure but I think waves like start this from each place where many people start their camino: SJPdP, Pamplona, Burgos, Leon, Sarria, Porto, Irun, Oviedo, Lugo, etc. And, just know that many people start...
The same happened im the beginning of july. There are peaks of starters in the beginning of every month, especially july and august, but for sure also september. Many people still seem to have holidays per the beginning of a month. Next week it will go down a little again with again enough beds...
Hi VeganCamino, most of it you will walk along the LU-612. It is a stretch from about 26 kms. I haven't walked it but I drove that road once. It is walkable, but it will not be a nice a walk. The road is quit straight forward were cars will drive quit fast. On most parts there is a hard asfalt...
You can do bot, as long as you do actually stamp somewhere in Lugo. It is the 100 km point. If you have a stamp only somewhere after Lugo, it will be seen as that was your starting point which doesn't give you the right for a Compostella.
