Hi
We were staying in Leon on 24th September 2022 and witnessed an amazing procession of religious statues, carried by hooded men, women and children. There were also numerous bands in the procession up to the cathedral.
I’ve found information about Semanosanta but that’s Easter, no mention...
If the forecast isn't looking too grim (I like the cold, but being from Cumbria, I've had quite enough of rain), I'm thinking of walking the Camino Ingles over Christmas - New Year. Will the albergues and / or other accommodation be open, along with bars and restaurants?
Thanks, Michael.
I went off to walk the Camino Ingles this year with a brooding sense that something bad was about to happen to me. Well, nothing did! I flew home on June 8 ---- and one week later I fell and broke multiple vertebrae in my back. Excruciating, debilitating pain. I lived on hydrocodone for weeks...
It’s party season in this corner of the Francés, which is good if you like culture noise music and running bulls, but not so good if you are a perigrino who wants to sleep at night. I am here as a hospitalera in Viana and will be right in the thick of things. From Saturday Sept10 until Wednesday...
I'm playing with dates, and flights and all that good stuff.
My preferred VdlP dates at this stage have me starting right in the middle of Semana Santa.
So my thoughts at this stage are:
Great, what an experience!
You must be mad, the place will be crazy.
It will be hard to find...
We're planning to walk the Camino Portugues during the first two weeks of April 2023 and noticed that Easter falls on April 9. Am wondering if there is any downside to walking during Holy Week / Easter (too crowded; restaurants and businesses closed etc). Or maybe it's a good time to go due to...
I plan to walk the Norte in starting around Easter in April 23. I’m happy to stay in a range of accommodation eg pensiones? cheap hotels, Alberques etc as will be sharing cost with a friend. We could book ahead if needed
Is there likely to be challenges getting accommodation over the Easter...
This article caught my eye this morning. The return of an annual romeria - local pilgrimage - by Galicians to the Cruz de Ferro on July 31st. This event has been suspended for two years because of Covid. One of a number of stories I have seen recently noting the return of romerias in various...
Timing and St. James Feast Day
Hello, planning for a camino with my son in July is evolving. I‘m wondering about crowds and Feast Day. Neither of us really feel comfortable in large crowds (this is unrelated and related to covid) and one of the reasons we are walking the Camino is because we...
Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew about the celebrations in Santiago this year. July 25th is a Monday, so I wasn't sure if the celebrations would be starting on Friday, or if they begin Monday and continue on into the week. Any insights are appreciated!
First time back since 2013 and being here during Holy Week is so special. I've enjoyed the processions and celebrations in the cathedral. Watching the arrival of pilgrims throughout the day being greeted by the bagpipes was a joy. I vividly recall my own journey so many years ago and am overcome...
Joe and I had a great time today visiting St. Ignatius’ cave and also attending the Semana Santa Good Friday observances tonight. I took a lot of great photos and video that I will put in my blog tomorrow.
Tomorrow is a partial rest day for us. We may try to visit the Comarcal Museum that was...
I noticed today that several grocery stores are closing at 3pm on Thursday and not opening again until Saturday morning (Holy Thursday and Good Friday). I got my rations for today and tomorrow morning but I’m more than a little concerned that nothing is going to be open when I get to my Albergue...
Finally making a trip to Santiago de Compostela for Easter. While I won't be walking the Camino, looking forward to experiencing such a special celebration during the Holy Year.
What time do you have to arrive to get a seat for Easter mass in the cathedral? Do you need a pass like the Vatican...
Just a quick question ..With Easter weekend being on April 15th to April 19th , how far in advance should I make reservations en route or should I go blind .. just that my understanding is not only there be more pilgrims but also a lot more traffic at this busy time cannot give an estimate...
I’ll be arriving in Madrid March 30, 2022.I had planned to spend a few days there and/or go somewhere warm in the south(Cadiz!) to spend a few days on the beach to warm my body after a cold northern winter.☃️
But then I want to start the Camino From Roncevalles. I’m quite flexible so I’m trying...
Hello
We are planning to be in Porto on Thurs 14th April, and would like to explore Porto on Good Friday. Would shops and restaurants be open on the Friday and would we be able to enjoy exploring easily? Are supermarkets open on the following days (Sat, Sun & Mon (Easter weekend)) We are heading...
