Hi,

I will be arriving in Portugal on the 8th of July and wish to do the Camino for 12/13 days. I have done it before in France and averaged around 20 to 25km per day for 6 days.

I wish to try the coastal route arriving either in Faro or Lisbon. Has anyone done these routes before that can recommend me a good itinerary? Do you have to prebook accommodation or can you just find it along the way? Will it be very busy at that time of year? What's the average cost for a bed? Any issues with bed bugs? Is it hard to find vegetarian food in the guesthouses. In France most of the churches were locked that we passed en route, is it the same in Portugal?

Thanking you in advance for any advice you can give me.

Do you want to end up in Santiago de Compostela after 13 days ? Or just start somewhere and see how far you will come ?
Going by the coast in july I should advise to prebook because all places you will stay are bath resorts They attract a lot of people spending their holidays.
there are not many albergues on the coastal ; you will stay in hostals or hotels most of the time .I donot think there is a bedbug issue. I have never had an experience with bedbugs during our 3 caminos.
The average price for a hostalbed in Portugal is about 18 to 20 € but this is on the common route.
Last year we walked the coastal north of Porto and there we paid 30 to 40 € for a double bed room most of the time without breakfast.
I am now preparing the caminho from Lisbon along the coast and an average price for a double bed room varies from 35€ to 50€ with some pilgrimreduction of about 20%
The albergues on the central route sometimes are donative to 20€ per bed.
But at some places donative means they expect around 15 to 20€ per bed if a meal and breakfast is included.

I have no experiences with vegetarian food in Portugal. Portuguese eat a lot of meat and fish.

Hope it gives some answers on your questions

Bom caminho

Hi Kat,
I have a detailed itinerary that I have developed for our planned camino from Porto to SdC which we intend to do in June 2017. It starts out coastal then turns inland. I have it within an Excel spreadsheet with details of planned hotel stops and costs. You are welcome to use this if you wish? Let me know if you want a copy and I can send it to you in a private message.

Pathman, There seems to be a lot of interest in this spreadsheet of yours. Are you willing to post it for all the forum to see? Either as a Resource or as an attachment to a post would work.

I hadn't realised I could attach it! Ah, there is a "Upload a File" icon below, I shall try that!
Except it doesn't allow for an Excel file to be uploaded? Any suggestions?

Would it be possible to convert it to PDF before uploading? .xls extensions are not allowed to be uploaded to the forum, since it might be a way computer viruses can spread. If you are not sure how to convert the excel for til pdf, I can do it for you if you like. Just e-mail me the excel file: ivar@casaivar.com

Sorry for making it so complicated! :)

I am currently on holiday in Tenerife so haven't got access to my PC and software, so I cannot convert myself but I will email it to Ivar and he can convert and post it on this forum. Regards,

Thank you for the file!

I had a look and tried to convert it to a pdf format, but it is very wide, so it was complicated... so I did upload it to Google Drive and you can get it from there (no virus risk).

You should be able to get to it here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1w03EFc74yQ-G3qjjd8MDU0-7KWay02C74kDoXw6RG3Q/edit?usp=sharing

Please note that there are 3 tabs at the bottom.

..and that you can download it as an excel file (Google has scanned it for virus) here:
