1st Camino April 2024

Just joined the forum. My wife and I are just now starting the planning and training for our first camino next year. I'll be 65 and she will be 62 when we commence. We'll have three weeks total for the trip, plan to spend about two weeks walking taking our time to smell the roses, etc as neither one of us have been especially active (walking 18 holes is my norm). I'm thinking of either staring the CF at Ponferrada or the CP at Vila de Conte. Look forward to good information from this forum.

Because I’m not a big fan of the last leg of the CF (Sarria to SdC), I’going to suggest that you walk the Portugués from either Porto or Vila do Conde. Both the Coastal and Central routes are great, but as it is your first Camino, take the inland central route. From Ponte de Lima to Pontevedra to Padrón, there are wonderful towns/cities along The Way. The countryside wonderful! If you can, reserve beds at Case Fernanda halfway between Barcelos and Ponte de Lima. As you have two weeks to walk, you could also include the Variante Espiritual that begins after Ponteverda and puts you back on the CP near Padrón. There is no bad Camino, but my preference would be the Portugués over doing the CF from Ponferrada. Buen Canino!
