During the month of January 2008, 306 pilgrims were received at the Pilgrim’s Office. The number of pilgrims in the year 2007 during the same period was 350.
Of those pilgrims, 95 were women (31,05%) and 211 men 68,95%). 288 pilgrims (94,12%) arrived on foot and 18 by bicycle (5,88%).

Pilgrims’ Age.
4 pilgrims were younger than 15 years old (1,31%); 146 were between 16 and 35 years old (48,04%); 150 were between 36 and 65 years old (49,02%) and 6 were aged above 65 years old (1,96%).

Pilgrims’ Nationality.
Spanish: 159 (51,96%). Most of the pilgrims come from: Madrid, 44; Galicia and Catalonia with 19 pilgrims in both cases); Valencian Community with 15; Castile and León 13, and the Basque Country, 11.

Foreigners: 147 (48,04%). Most of the pilgrims come from the following countries: Germany with 34; Italy with 15; Brazil with 13; the United States and Portugal with 8 pilgrims in both cases; The Nederland’s and France with 6 pilgrims each, and Switzerland with 5.

Starting Points.
Most of the pilgrims received during the month of January started their Way to Santiago in: Sarria, 56 (18,30%); O Cebreiro, 26 (8,50%); Ponferrada 25 (8,16%); St. Jean Pied de Port 20 (6,54%); in Roncesvalles, León and Astorga started 18 pilgrims respectively (5,88%) and in Burgos 12 (3,92%).

The Chosen Routes

Most of the pilgrims chose the French Way with 240 (78,43%); followed by the Portuguese Route with 28 pilgrims (9,15%), the Silver Way has been chosen by 18 pilgrims (5,88%), the Northern Way with 11 (3,59%), the Primitive Way with 4 pilgrims (1,31%) and the English way with only 1 pilgrim (0,33%) . Four pilgrims (1,31%) have chosen other ways.




During the month of February 2008, 703 pilgrims were received at the Pilgrim’s Office. The number of pilgrims in the year 2007 during the same period was 666.
Of those pilgrims, 217 were women (30,87%) and 486 men (69,13%). 654 pilgrims arrived on foot (93,03%); 47 by bicycle (6,69%) and 2 on horseback (0,28%).

Pilgrims’ Age.
71 pilgrims were younger than 15 years old (10,10%); 366 were between 16 and 35 years old (52,06%); 258 were between 36 and 65 years old (36,70%) and 8 were aged above 65 years old (1,19%).

Foreigners: 357. (50,78%) Most of the pilgrims come from the following countries: Portugal with 137 ; Germany with 15; France with 37 ; Italy with 20 (4,88%); Brazil with 14; Austria with 11 and Belgium with 10 pilgrims.

Most of the pilgrims received during the month of February started their Way to Santiago in: O Cebreiro, 146 (20,77%); Sarria, 125 (17,78%); Tuy 63 (8,96%); St. Jean Pied de Port 50 (7,11%); in Roncesvalles 37 (5,26%); in León 28 (3,98%); in Ponferrada 25 (3,56%); in Valença do Minho 17 (2,42%); in Villafranca 15 (2,13%); in Astorga 15 (2,13%) ; in Burgos 14 (1,99%) and in Pamplona and Seville 13 pilgrims (1,85%) respectively.

Most of the pilgrims chose the French Way with 552 (78,52%) ; followed by the Portuguese Route with 97 pilgrims (13,80%) , the Silver Way has been chosen by 28 pilgrims (3,98%), the Northern Way with 12 (1,71%), the Primitive Way with 10 pilgrims (1,42%) and the English way with only 4 pilgrims (0,52%).

MARCH 2008

During the month of March 2008, 5.327 pilgrims were received at the Pilgrim’s Office. The number of pilgrims in the year 2007 during the same period was 1.680.
Of those pilgrims, 2.229 were women (43,16%) and 3.028 men (56,84%). 4.670 pilgrims arrived on foot (87,66%); 619 by bicycle (11,62%), 37 on horseback (0,69%) and only one pilgrim arrived on wheelchair (0,02%).

Pilgrims’ Age.
204 pilgrims were younger than 15 years old (3,82%); 2.860 were between 16 and 35 years old (53,68%); 2.138 were between 36 and 65 years old (40,13%) and 125 pilgrims were aged above 65 years old (2,34%).
