Welcome Linda!
It's true as Johnny says its the strangest booking place on the camino, I have to wait an extra day in St Jean (no hardship) because it does fill up. Eventually Jean-Jaques will get back to you. We are just so used to instant booking, the family is busy and the computer is not manned all the time.

Sarah, I see messages where pilgrims are referring to wearing their 'Forum patch" on their packs. What is this? The only patch I have is from the Canadian Company of Pilgrims.

I got my patch from here on the forum in Ivar's shop. If you look at the photo of my pack on the previous page its on the right hand side. the other patch you can buy in almost any souvenir shop along the way. Mine was given to me by my son Ben when he walked the camino 5 months ahead of me in 2013.

Hi! Thank you for doing this! I am Rosalie from SLC. I will arrive in Bayonne by train from Lourdes on Sunday, Sept 6th. My friend, Windi and I plan to take a taxi to SJPdP sharing the Pilgrims price of $80. We stay at Beilari Albergue then walk to Orrison and stay there on the 7th. It is warm out there!!! I try to leave early in the morning. I just hiked Coliseum Mt yesterday and didn't bring enough water. It's all a learning experience and I'm glad to be working out all the kinks now before I go.
Are you able to get in some hikes?

I leave Los Angeles the 15th, flying into Biarritz on the 16th,
I think. And then I will spend the night. Next morning, I take the train from Bayonne to St. Jean. Hmmm. I think that probably means I won't actually begin the walk until the 18th. But in any case, I hope to see you along the way. I also plan to walk to Santiago.
I have not reserved a place on the train from Bayonne to St. Jean. I don't know if that's necessary. If anyone knows otherwise and can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Needless to say, this will be my first walk on the Camino.
Thats great Margaret.. wow your coming such a long way before you even start your journey on the camino. Were bound on the " Way" to bump into one another. Only a few months till we start. Hope your training going ok. i walked some of it before but this time i plan to walk all the way as have good bit of time.

I asked for the 18th and they offered the 19th!?! Its quite difficult to communicate with them when you have to wait days for a reply? I'll be a day behind you because I already booked for 2 nights in St Jean at Gite Ultreia. Sometimes things work out for a reason just because they do?

What fun to meet fellow pilgrims ahead of time. My husband, Dave, and I leave home (Victoria, B.C., Canada) on September 7th, arrive in St. Jean Pied de Port (Errecaldia) on September 8th, and start walking on my birthday, September 10th. We made a reservation at the auberge in Orisson for that night. Our flight leaving Europe won't be until November 12th so we can mosey along as slowly as we like. That being said, I suspect that when we keep getting passed by other pilgrims we'll pick up the cadence! We are in training mode and packed already. This will be our first Camino.

Service from Bayonne to SJPdP is provided by SNCF TER Aquitaine. September schedule shows only two trips per day. Service is by train to Cambo les Bains and then bus to SJPdP. You can buy a ticket that is good for 90 days. You cannot reserve a seat on TER services.
Transports64 offers bus service #811 from Gare Bayonne to St Palais and #810 from St Palais to SJPdP.

Judy, I leave Courtenay on August 27 and will start my Camino on the 30. I have a lot of extra time and will be taking my time so perhaps we will meet along the way.

Mario and Marsha Calvo departing California for Biarritz, France on Aug 26. Will probably depart SJPP around Aug 31 so you can put us down for that date. We are taking it slow and don't have a time limit in which to finish in either Santiago or Finisterre. We just want to get our bodies a little adjusted to the time zone and ready to hit the road! See you all out there!

Hi steprog,and welcome, you certainly have time to make it to Orisson the same day, takes about 3 hours once you start walking and its very uphill in the beginning. they ask that you arrive by 18.00 or they will give up your bed. You need to be there by then for the communal meal. Have you booked?
I guess it all depends whether you are pushed for time? Also you will miss the unique atmosphere in St Jean? there isn't a lot to see there, do you need to rest up?Where are you coming from? Either way you will meet many pilgrims that you will end up walking with for days. Some people are restless and want to head off straight away. If you would be intending to stay at Orisson on the 30th then you get some time in St Jean and half a day off in the Pyrenees. Depends if you need/want to start quickly or slowly. You will need to book Orisson, its not usually possible to stay there on the spur of the moment, they like you to book.

Hi titoki, I know exactly how you feel, I was positively bursting with excitement to first time, but scared also. I was worried about that first big day that took me 9 hours! I did it though and the sense of achievement was amazing.
