Due to low pilgrim numbers in winter, the forum meet-up is now 'please call/message ahead' only. You can reach me via this forum or via the contact info here: http://egeria.house/contact/ if you want to chat all things Caminos over a cup of something. Buen Camino, SY

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi everybody!

I updated the first post in this thread with up to date information here: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/2018-open-house-forum-meet-up-in-santiago.48513/

However There will be no forum meet up this Monday and Tuesday, I am recovering from a nasty tonsillitis and don't want to pass this on as a souvenir to a poor pilgrim ;-)

Don't worry, I am nearly feeling 100% again, just being cautious ;-)

BC SY

Now rest well and drink some tea!

@SYates sorry you are not well - get all better soon. I missed you this year - was a very quick 12 hour visit - but there is a possibility I might be back in October. If so I will let you know.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Sorry guys, this tonsillitis simply doesn't want to go away - so no Open House this whole week, sorry. I am now on antibiotics, hopefully that will do the trick. Buen Camino, SY

As the Anglican Chaplaincy, see https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/anglican-chaplaincy-in-santiago.55255/, takes its "summer break" we are back to normal, or whatever counts as normal in my life ;-)

Important Info! Please read first!

How to find my place:

The address is TRAVESIA do Carme de Abeixo, there are two streets with similar names in the neighbourhood. At least one neighbour in those streets, as I discovered, has had regularly pilgrims ringing her door bell. She was really gracious as I went over to apologize, but please make sure you come to the right place. To find my house (and not hers):

Follow the Camino to Finisterre until you see the sign pointing to the albergue Roots&Boots pointing to the left.

Turn right in the little street called TRAVESIA do Carme de Abeixo.
My place is less than 10m down that street at number four on the right hand side.

  • It is a white, wooden door, which is open (weather permitting).
  • SYates is written on the door bell.
  • If you don't see my name on the door bell, you are at the wrong house!

Please help me to maintain good relationships with my neighbours and don't ring/knock at the wrong door ;-)

I will provide: Tea/Coffee, soft drinks, cookies/biscuits etc.

Costs: None, but you are welcome to bring drink/food to share with others and there might be a discreetly placed basket in a corner where you can drop a cent or two for the next supply of tea bags ;-)

Open House is Monday to Friday 16:00-18:00, but if you want to come earlier/later/on the weekend just drop me a note (contact details here: http://egeria.house/contact/ and I will be there and open the door for you!

Lets just see how it goes and I will take it from there. Looking forward to seeing you all & Buen Camino, SY

PS For all of you that are/were concerned about my privacy: When I envisioned living in Santiago, I already had it very clear in my head that I would share part of the house with pilgrims/friends, so nobody is intruding on my privacy ;-) The ground floor is 'open space', the first floor is 'invited only' space and the second floor is 'only my space'. ;-)

Wow,

Does this mean I can come by for a chat friday 27? I will probably reach Santiago that day, after my Camino de Invierno, and I would love to meet Syates, the Camino Legend...!

Sorry guys, this tonsillitis simply doesn't want to go away - so no Open House this whole week, sorry. I am now on antibiotics, hopefully that will do the trick. Buen Camino, SY

My real name is Henrik, if you don't want to call me Bad Pilgrim! But you can call me anything you want! :0D

BP
Hahahaha...
You think people would have problem calling you Bad Pilgrim? What about KinkyOne? :D
But one @peregrina2000 just stick to calling me Kinky when we met (and she even apologized for that) ;)

Well I am about to walk over to SYates place right now, since I am in Santiago in one of the bars at the moment. I will try to behave! Oh, I am so shy of meeting new people! I will tell you all about it later!

Byyyye!

Thank you very much @SYates !
It was a great pleasure to talk to you...

especially as I felt sometimes a little bit lost in Santiago if I was not together with pilgrims... with so many tourists in Santiago... the 'normal life' so close... and only so little time before going back to my 'normal life'.

@SYates we're in SdC now, and we fly out on 3 November. We still have to find a suitcase/bag to put our backpacks in it (and have to do it today as tomorrow is a public holiday), but apart from that, it would be great to meet.
I'll send you a text, but fully understand if we can't meet.
Thank you
Andrew
