2022 San Froilán Festival in Lugo, Spain (Oct 4-12, 2022) - Is there an issue finding accommodation?

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Primitivo
Hi Fellow Pilgrims,

I am planning to do the Camino Primitivo in September/October 2022 timeframe. I planned on having a rest day in Lugo.

One of the 12-to-15-day time periods I am considering might have me walking through Lugo at the same time as the San Froilan Festival (taking place between October 4-12, 2022).

My questions are:

  • Would it be difficult finding accommodation in a private alburgue, hotel, etc., during this time?

  • Is it definitely worthwhile to be in Lugo during this October 4-12 festival, or better to experience the city outside that time period? I am a history nut and look forward to walking around/taking in the city, walking the Roman walls, etc. I am also considering the Primitivo in mid/late September/first few days of October, which would have me avoiding San Froilan.

Thank you!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I was there this year on a weekday and it was fine. We booked places at a central albergue the night before. No shortages. YMMV.

In 2016 we had difficulty finding accommodation in Lugo for the next night(8th Oct) big fiesta.
I ended up splashing out for the gorgeous Hotel Mendes Nunes.

I agree with @Tincatinker I was there during San Frolian festival time in 2019 and it was wonderful - and busy. We were happy to have booked a room in advance.

I think Lugo is one of those (fabulous) towns that can often be busy, especially on weekends, even without a festival.

It would definitely be extremely difficult finding accommodation - we were there during San Froilán 2015 and needed an extra day because of sickness. The hospitaleros, god bless them, let us stay in the minusvalidos room in the albergue (which had plenty of spaces), otherwise we would have been in desperate straits. Would it be worthwhile? Yes, it looks a lot of fun and nowhere near as rowdy, noisy or alcohol-fuelled as most fiestas seem to be - there was a lot of street music and folkloric stuff going on. I suggest you book ahead and enjoy the fun and the history both.
