30K stretch on first week?

Hello,

I'm contemplating the Via de la Plata (again...I go back and forth). I would begin on June 1 in Sevilla. I've already walked the camino frances so I (kind of) know what I'm in for. Would it be possible to walk 25K a day the first week on VdlP? Later on I'll be able to manage 30-35K but in the beginning I would like to do a little less. Is it possible?

Also is there a guide that guides you from Sevilla to Stgo. with a list of albergues? I speak fluent Spanish so a guide in Spanish would be just fine.

Also...if anyone is currently on the VdlP or has heard about 2009, I'm curious just how many pilgrims are out there this year. It seems (according to this website) that recently people are running into other fellow pilgrims and some of the albergues have even been full. I would love to do the VdlP but my hesitation has always been that I might not run into many other pilgrims. I really don't want to feel like I'm the only one out there.

Thanks for your help.

~Kelly

Hi a friend of mine just walked the VDLP he started late march. He didn't see any other pilgrims really except for once he met 4 who later took all the beds in a 4 bed albergue so he had nowhere to sleep! He said that often the albergues were full of other groups, not pilgrims who were on trips etc. All in all I think although there were hardly any other pilgrims he had a lot of trouble finding places to stay (at least places to stay on a budget anyhow).
He did say it was absolutely beautiful and the nature on the route was great.
I was thinking about it this year but now I am imagining maybe next spring? Maybe the holy year will boost numbers on the less busy routes? :)

I'm also hoping that in the next couple of years the other caminos will become popular. I'm wondering if maybe there will be more pilgrim albergues during June and also many more pilgrims...I'll just keep waiting for more input. Thanks!

In June it will be very hot. And there is the stretch of 29 km which will com on day 3 if you schedule it accordingly. This also has 16 km on the road first thing.
The countryside is beautifull.
