5 Weeks

Is 5 weeks enough time to start on the French side and walk Norte to Primitivo to Santiago and able to spend a couple days in Lugo and Santiago. Flying from Oregon, U.S. Or is it much safer for me to just do the Camino Frances? Opinions please?

Unless you are a experienced walker used to long daily stages you might find five weeks very tight for this. Here is one suggested break-down into stages as far as Arzua - one long days walk from Santiago:

It's also worth bearing in mind that most people find the Norte and Primitivo more challenging than the Frances because of the many ascents/descents along the way.

Thank you! The hills we can handle. It does seem clear Camino Frances will be a better option for 5 weeks.

Chehalem range. Plan on going more places though. Silver Falls would be great. We are still 1 1/2 years out.

Eroski site would say 36 days, with no rest days. Editorial Buen Camino 34. So if you consider 5 weeks being 35, it is a bit tight. But who says you can't skip, for example, the 2 Days lokned norte with Primitivo, or the bit into Bilbao and out of it, or, or or.

To me these are 2 very different routes. One quieter, more about long distance walking that "spirituality" and "camino magic"' with spectacular views od the sea and walking through clouds in mountain ranges. Tje other busy, busy busy, with lively rolling hills and big sky in the Meseta, more socialising and more monuments, churches and history, perhaps more sybolism. I am glad I have done both, there really is no wrong choice, until you have them both under your belt and which is for you.

Muchas Gracias! Great help. We will see what we are up to. We are getting older at 50 so maybe see if 6 weeks is possible and try the Norte/Primitivo first. Or, skip a couple days via bus. Great ideas..
