if you had to pick 6 buildings/statues/images from your camino that stood out as mile markers on the way.... what would they be?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Hi @rita n/ , welcome back to the forum. Only 6? The bridge at Arneguy; the Monastery at Roncevalles; the wine fountain at Irache; the maze at Atapuerca; the Bodegas at Moratinos; the Roman walls at Mansilla de las Mulas. I've not mentioned 30 - 50 already passed and there are 100s to come. And if I had to pick only 6 again those 6 wouldn't feature because next time my brain tries a flash-track it would all be different.

Ah, now I understand the image question. Stand-outs for me are often around emotion rather than historicity or the picturesque. Hence the Bodegas at Moratinos. Hobbit-holes, they made me laugh out loud at first glimpse, a moment of pure release - even the land-scape had a sense of humour. The maze at Atapuerca is modern, recent, but it reflects the iconography of the mesolithic peoples who made the journey from the Danube to Fisterra and left their scratches on the rocks along the Way.

There is a not particularly interesting statue of Santo Domingo de la Calzada somewhere on the outskirts of Burgos. It is no icon or shrine and the dust from the traffic settles on his feet as perhaps it should. I stop there every time; to thank him for the road. I don't know if its a good image of the pilgrims' saint but its location always seems apt. Gazing out over a busy road rather than some glittery transept.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hmmm. Here are my 6;
1) The 'Santiago 790km' road sign in Roncesvalles
2) Pilgrim monument on Alto del Perdon
3) Irache wine fountain
4) Templar Castle in Ponferrada
5) Cruz de Ferro
6) Santiago Cathedral

I could easily have included Burgos Cathedral, the castle in Castrojeriz, Monte de Gozo etc

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Madonna at Point Orrison, Pilgrim Monument on Alto del Perdon, Bridge at Puenta de la Reina or Molinaseca, Sillouette of the villiage of Cirauqui, Castrojeriz, Cruz de Ferro, Santiago Cathedral.

Man that's hard to limit to 6.

Pilgrim statues at Alto del Perdón
Bridge at Puente de la Reina
One of the 'open vistas', probably looking down towards Hornillos.
Eunate
Ciraqui
Cathedral of Santiago seen from Plaza del Obraidoro

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.

Pick 6 pilgrims at random 2 at the start, 2 in the middle, and 2 at the end of their Camino. The Pilgrim is iconic as you can get. Bien Camino

Happy Trails

I don't carve people well. scenery is better. :D
Haven't walked the French route yet so I cant help you. However, I'm sure you will pass something that will inspire you. There have been a few times on the Camino where I found a bed inspiring:).

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Halfway through the thread and my top six were already picked! So I came up with 6 more, which were picked by the end of the thread!

So, here are my 6

1. The pilgrim monument in Valcarlos.
2. The tire map by Cirauqui.
3. "Our Lady of the Rock" in Tosantos.
4. The "R" on the steps of the Burgos cathedral.
5. That completely asinine rail crossing in Astorga.
6. That stupid 27.8 km marker. I am STILL angry about that one! It's bad enough to count down every half kilometer, but .8??? WHY????

I agree with so many of the icons already mentioned but my first 6 on initial
reflection would be:

The Monastery at Roncesvalles
The 790 km to Santiago sign
The big black bull on the hill along the way
The palace in Astorga
The Castle in Ponferrada
Santiago Cathedral.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
1. The view along the Camino from Cizur Menor OMG I must climb those snowy mountains! (No you don't)
2. Despite the controversy, Alto del Perdón the surroundings were once pristine and the memorial is a good way to forget that
3. The Chicken Coop in Santo Domingo de la Calzada
4. "The" Hill just after Castrojeriz
5.The bridge at Hospital de Órbigo and its legend
6. Now a hard one, many never notice at all but in the words of Martin Buber "The Hidden Light"!. Santiago is located in the province of A Coruña, the first waymarker, yellow shell at the top and engraved A Coruña is found where? Two hundred meters before the T intersection as you come into Lobreiro - a cause for celebration! Perhaps at the bar around the corner!

I like this list but would try to squeeze in the 0 km marker at Finisterre?

I covered 2/3 of the Frances, so I will limit myself to 4 iconic images:
1. Cruz de Ferra
2. Pilgrim monument of the pass Alto de San Rocque
3. Church of Saint Nicholas at Portomarin (or castle of the Knights Templar at Ponferrada)
4. the Romanesque Portico of Glory, Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela
