Our second week saw Ngaire, my partner in crime, come to grief. She had developed blisters earlier and tried to manage them but they got to a point of no walking after just arriving in Najera. Medical treatment next morning and advised minimum of 2 days off. We knew that was optimistic. We were due in Burgos weeks end with a rest day so decided to follow our schedule best we could by bus, arriving in Burgos Thursday a day early. Organised extra night at our digs for a 2 day stay, 5 days off all up from Najera. The blisters were healing well but as Ngaire had been compensating her gait walking, ended up with a planter right foot and very sore left ACL.
Got appointment Friday with physio in Burgos. Full hour treatment, heavy massage and anti swelling machine session with a very competent young female physio, 43e and a Camino saving outcome. Left this morning(Sunday) arriving in Hornillos del Camino 6 hrs later with 4 good breaks and minor soreness treated with ice and exercises. All good. Lesson. Allow for swelling in footwear size, especially in heat. Foot wear changed accordingly via shoe stall at local Najera Market. The Camino provides.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Could you give contact details for the physio? It’s always useful to have a recommendation.
Rehabilitation Centro Burgales. It is close to where the Camino enters the old city ( opposite Iglesia de San Lesmes Abad) but it is not in the old city. Good directions on Google maps.

Wow! Encouraging that you were able to get such good help. I am currently travelling with three friends - one of whom may be moving towards that same problem. And we just happen to be on our way to Burgos. We might look into that! I hope Ngaire continues to do well.

Hope your friend does not need to use the physio but if so, good luck. Going well, Castrojerez to Fromista tomorrow (Tuesday)
Buen Camino.

Thanks—Am in Sahagun now on second day off dealing with similar large blisters on both feet. I had been trying to manage but walking became tortuous. The blisters are healing but may need another day or two. Am fortunate not to have developed problems with plantar foot or acl. Upsized footwear and regular treatment of lanced blisters have made a huge difference for me, saving my Camino.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I am glad she got very good treatment. What caused the blisters ? What is the verdict on this please ? I am soo worried the same might happen to me. In hindsight, what will she do, differently next time?

We have always lubricated our feet and between toes with vaseline and wear good non slip hiking socks. Ngaire's hiking shoes were worn in prior and never any trouble on our hikes back home, but shorter distances once or twice a week. Her shoes were her regular size. Starting our Camino in mid August hot weather resulting in her feet swelling with no room in her shoes. One or two sizes larger would have made a big difference and she now has larger shoes and sandles. Holding up good so far.
