Many many pilgrims enjoy beginning or ending their Camino in Paris. Paris can be wonderful all year long even on a blustery wintery day with intelligent exploitation of the Metro. I wouldn't dream of recommending what or where to visit e-x-c-e-p-t two places. One: Tour Saint Jacques do know that around the back is a kiosk selling soft drinks and snacks etc AND they have a sello! Perfect first or last stamp! Another 'fun fact' the small park surrounding the tower is all that remains of the church in honor of our own Matamoros now favored by Muslim families for a picnic! Oh, the curiosities of history! But...but...but Scruffy what about the book??!!?? Patience. We are all aware of the catastrophe which occurred with Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. A book has come out written by of all people the Welsh author of thrillers and historical Ken Follett entitled 'Notre-Dame' and he has donated all his royalties from this book to La Fondation du Patrimoine. The book arrived today from Book Depository, don't know if it is well written or what however the efforts of this popular author are worthy and should be respected. PS. I have never read any book he wrote and cannot be considered a groupie!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
This is wonderful news. Thank you, Scruffy1 for bringing it to our attention. Ken Follett meticulously researches his historical novels. I have no doubt Notre Dame will be as fine an opus as his The Pillars of the Earth. I am ordering it today. While on the Camino Frances in 2017 (I started on Earth Day), I admired the men and women of antiquity who conceived, designed, and built structures that still stand today. I touched the blocks of stone knowing that hands not unllike our own set them in place, and they must have wondered aloud whether they would be alive to appreciate the ultimate product of their life's work.

I felt the same as you as I marveled at the cathedrals along the Way. Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" brought to life the blood, sweat and tears that went into the building of these great masterpieces, and a snippet of life behind the scenes.
