Hello I have walked the gr10 from st John pied de port and on to Irun and connected up can, into norde. There are gite de etappes on that route and I believe it is better marked than the Spanish gr11. If you want to do that I can dig out my diary, no problem.
You can do it on 4-5 days it is a mountain and you need to be fit and bring 3 LTS of water a day

Hi, Nadav!

If I understand your question about "connecting to compostela" correctly you have three possibilities from Irun. As nalod already suggested you can go on Camino del Norte (http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es/los-caminos-de-santiago/del-norte/).

Or go SW via Estavillo (few kms after La Puebla de Arganzon) where this route separate to Camino Vasco del Interior which ends in Sto.Domingo de la Calzada (http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es/los-caminos-de-santiago/vasco/) and Camino de Bayona that ends in Burgos.

Ultreia!

Nadav,

There are no shops as such at Roncevalles/Orreaga; it is simply a large monastery complex. However, within the complex is a separate tourist bureau for Navarra. They have a broad selection of tourist literature both free and for sale. Here is their web >> http://www.turismo.navarra.es/eng/organice-viaje/recurso.aspx?o=3269. You might email them your GR11 map request. Here is their email >> oit.roncesvalles@navarra.es

Thanks, I'm late on this thread and likely missed something. My wife and I walked from St. Jean to Santiago two years ago and want to start again in St. Jean Pied de Porte. The last time the Napoleon was closed due to snow and only the Valcarlos was open. This time we would like to do the Napoleon to Roncesvalles, but then head to Irun to begin the Norte. Its still not clear to me from this blog if it is possible to go from Roncesvalles to Irun. I understand that the GR11/GR10 is the way to go but has anyone done this that can give us some insight. Thanks much.
