Accommodation in Pamplona - Early July - ideas?

Just realised that I'm hitting Pamplona on July 6th(First day of the bull run festival). Best laid plans ....and all that. The guidebooks tell me that the Hostels are not open for business as usual and an initial glance at alternative lodgings is looking very, very pricey. Any ideas on an alternative stragey that might involve avoiding the San Fermin festival? I'll leave SJdPP on the 3rd and don't mind putting a few hard days in at the beginning.
Any help appreciated.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I wonder whether just going on to Cizur Menor may be your answer :!: I can't see that they will be affacted, other than lots of people wanting to stay there instead of Pamplona.
Just a thought.

Hi Alan, We realised we were going to be in the same boat as we leave St Jean on 5th July. Our plan is to bus/taxi from Zubiri (or maybe even Roncesvalles) to Cizur Menor to avoid Pamplona and hope that pilgrim accommodation that close to Pamplona won't be affected. We, for the first time, are carrying sleeping mats just for this section. We figure if all else fails, we can sleep on a porch if needs be. We'll check with others as we walk to get advice, trust that the Caminio will provide but carry a sleeping mat just in case.

Hi Suzie,
I might try and contact the folks at Cizur Mneor and find out what the situation is. I'll let you know.
I'm not adverse to sleeping where I fall. Just see what happens.
