After the rains in Valencia

A "Tourigrino" trip once Covid has passed, so 2023
Not especialy Camino related but it's been a month since the disasterous floods in Valencia. The Guardian newspaper has a series of then and now photographs which will make you appreciate how bad it was and just how much effort the Spanish people have put into restoration - the one of the church is particularly striking.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Absolutely amazing

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

thank you for the post. Maybe there'll be donation spots along the camino we can give to. I'm going in May

I was just starting my latest Camino a month ago and every morning we would watch the news about the terrible floods. Fantastic community and services to do such a fast job of cleaning up the chaos.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thanks @Jeff Crawley for drawing attention to those before and after photos in Valencia. I think it is relevant as pilgrims sometimes fly into Valencia before starting their Camino. It is so amazing and encouraging to see the efforts of people working together in unison for a common good.

Just to add my two pennies worth… being on the ground as it were. Valencia capital is absolutely fine and the metro has just started running again in the centre (ie from the airport). But for those of us who live in and around the Horta Sud ie south west of the city where the flooding really was unbelievable life is barely returning to normal. Travel is difficult or at least, there is no metro (until May-ish ‘25). There are shuttle buses but the queues are long. Supermarkets are few and far between and I am sure hostels and or albergues are not up and running. So, plan accordingly. Having said that, there is nothing to prevent you from doing the camino now from Valencia. Maybe the odd diversion but nothing more.
As to the help from volunteers, it has been amazing. Anyone who thinks the youth of today (not those who frequent the forum) can’t be bothered to… Thanks to them people in the affected towns were able to begin the clear up before the authorities got going!
