Ventosa closed on November 2 for the season. It was a slow summer according to the hospitalera, Romina from Sardinia, so the owner decided to close for the winter. No specific reopening date was set. The albergue did not have internet as listed in the Red Albergue brochure, which I found curious since the brochure is published from Ventosa and shares a phone number with the albergue. The owner remodeled this year, and the facilities are magnificent, so it makes my top ten list (except for the internet!). Romina, a pilgrim this year, plans to return again next year as a volunteer hospitalera, and she was the most helpful host of my walk.

In Portomarin, Albergue Ferramenteiro is closed. The O Mirador next door is open, but has no apparent heat source in the dormitory, so is a bit chilly on cold nights.

The El Ganso albergue is OPEN, but the Bar Cowboy was closed when I passed at noon!

The small albergue at Portos is closed for the season, but the bar/restaurant in front of it is open. In season this is a nice stop for taking the side trip to Vilar de Donas.

They have cool stamps at the El Ganso Alberque, although my book said it was a municipal, that was closed and the 8 euro, including breakfast is now open, and very warm and cozy! i miss the camino......

Javier,

Do you know if there are any albergues open between Trinidad de Arre and Obanos in the winter? I was planning on walking from Roncesvalles around the 26 of February (2009). It kinda' depends on how the weather is, if it's really bad I'll start in Pamplona, but trying to figure out where I'd need to stop to find somewhere to stay.
