Albergue in Grijo

Another albergue opened relatively recently, this one in Grijo. It's a long slog from Sao Joao de Madeira to Porto, so this will be especially nice for people who don't enjoy 30+ km days.

As I was hunting around for information on this albergue, I saw that once again the information on the ViaLusitana's web page is up to date and all I had to do was look there!

So, though I am happy to update the CSJ guide regularly, I think our first go-to place in checking out the current state of affairs for albergues between Lisbon and Porto should be the ViaLusitana website.

http://www.vialusitana.org/caminho-portugues/albergues/

The ViaLusitana is certainly to the Caminho from Lisboa to Porto the equivalent of what Ender is to the Caminho del Salvador. Up to date information, 24/7 SOS pilgrim phone number, indefatigable efforts to encourage more pilgrim accommodations on the Caminho, arrow marking efforts -- I will hazard the opinion that without this group, the Caminho would not have the accommodations and the momentum it now has. Thanks guys, wherever you are! Laurie

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hola Laurie. A great job that you do for us all, all the time.

I presume that you meant that it is a long slog to Porto so the albergue in between São João da Madeira and Porto in Grijo is a good alternative at about 22 kms walk from São João. From there it is another 10 kms to Porto.

So the Lisbon to Porto leg of the caminho Portuges is improving all the time and will atrract more pilgrims to start in Lisbon.

Thanks for posting this good news

Um abraço

Thanks, Albertinho, you are right, I wasn't thinking, I've changed it to say what you knew I intended to say. :)

São João da Madeira to Grijó is a very do-able stage. And having just 10 km the next day into Porto gives you the option of almost having a rest day in Porto without having a rest day! Laurie

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Yes. We walked it last year. The last part from Grijo to Porto I did not like so much. Very busy traffic. Highlite was to walk over the Eiffel bridge over the Douro river.

Do I need to bring my own pillow & pillow case for albergues?
Hi, Has anyone stayed in Armenteira recently? I’ve contacted Victor the Taxi to try and reserve a bunk at the Slbuergue de peregrinos. He told me to contact “ Albergue de San Ero de Armenteira”...
