Albergue in Santiago

Some but not all, and other routes too.
Help required please.

When I finished my CF in October I spent a lazy 3 days in Santiago , where I met up with friends I'd made on the camino.
I went for lunch in an Albergue not far from the Cathedral, it was a very large wonderful old building, I can't even remember what the building was in a previous life.
Anyway For the love of me I can't remember the name, so I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

The albergue that you remember so fondly may be San Martin Pinario. I like it too! Here is their web www.hsanmartinpinario.com/

Buen camino!
While San Martin Pinario does have a few rooms at pilgrim prices I do not consider ot an albergue. Perhaps you are thinking of the Seminario menor? San Martin is 20 meters from the cathedral's side door. The seminario a few minutes walk.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Although San Martn Pinario has regular tourist rooms it also has more than a few albergue rooms; all of the 4th floor provides albergue accommodation! The included hotel/albergue breakfast are the same and the hot meal at lunch/dinner always delicious. Prices may have risen slightly but the following post which I wrote a few years ago is still valid.

"I agree that San Martin Pinario is a VERY good stop in Santiago!

Most pilgrim rooms are singles at 23 Euros, but there are a few double pilgrim rooms and a few rooms with more beds. Ask about these when you email your query. for space to this address >> reservas@sanmartinpinario.eu.

Do NOT use the on-line booking form which is only for more expensive tourist accommodation.
I have stayed in simple pilgrim rooms in 2011 and December 2012, 2013, 2014 and always found it comfortable and most convenient. Added features are the fact that they are open 24/7 so that you can arrive at anytime, the obliging desk staff are multi-lingual, WiFi is free, there are multiple public spaces for casual conversation and the restaurant (open to all) serves a very good 3 course lunch or dinner with wine for only 12 Euros. What more does a tired pilgrim need?"

And they do your laundry too for a very reasonable rate.

It is best to book a few days before you are due to arrive, just in case they are busy.

Be brave. Life is joyous.

While my friends stayed at the Parador in Santiago, I stayed at the Hospedario San Martin Pinario. In part it was for reasons of cost, but it had all the physical comforts I wanted (private bed, toilet, shower, good breakfast) as well as equal grandeur, history and pilgrim significance, but maintained a more humble and simple atmosphere.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Actually, if you want one of the pilgrim rooms you have to book months in advance. Even the regular rooms have to be booked well in advance, and this from spring to fall.

Perhaps during the season you must book in advance but each time I stayed at San Martin Pinario albergue accommodation in mid December I simply walked in late in the day and obtained a private pilgrim room... Another reason that I have always loved walking off season.

That really depends on the season you walk, I got a pilgrims room on arrival in November but was advised to book ahead when coming back in a more busier season. Buen Camino, SY

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thank you all for the information, much appreciated. I haven't stayed there but had some very nice meals in the restaurant.

My post clearly says from spring to fall... November is not fall in my book, nor Dember. Mind you this year it certainly felt like April in December here, but I would not count on this happening very often.

@mspath -- do you know whether the double pilgrim rooms have a private bath? I'd really like to stay here at the end of my pilgrimage, but my husband is meeting me, and maybe a dorm bathroom would not be the best idea.

All rooms on the fourth floor have private bathrooms. I was once told that those "albergue" rooms are only available to those who have a compostela, but I have never seen anyone behind the desk question anyone or ask for a compostela, and I've spent many nights there over the past few years. Buen camino, Laurie

Thank you. After booking for three nights, I started to worry about it. Now I can cross that worry off my list and focus on the other 1000 or so leading up to my departure, now a mere six weeks away. I just keep telling myself: all will be well, all will be well, all will be well.....
