Albergue O Mirador in Portomarin has closed permanently

I just tried to make a reservation in the Albergue O Mirador in April but they say that they are now only a restaurant and that the albergue has permanently closed down. I have heard rumour of a new albergue opening in Portomarin, does anyone have any details?

A huge one is being constructed just on the backside of the O Mirador, which was getting major renovations in early February. Go next door to the Pons Minea (actually two doors down; another albergue has interposed itself between O Mirador and Pons Minea).

Interesting to hear that O Mirador is closing. That place must have been a gold mine because of its location at the beginning of the town. There are lots of other albergues in Portomarin:

The restaurant will still be there, and there is not a lot of competition in town! They may be the builders of the new albergue, which would keep them in the bed business.

O Mirador was my choice on my first CF in 2008. By the time I arrived I had been limping along since Estella. At the top of the stairs, I turned left and walked in the back door. Seeing my poor condition, the lady took my gear, found a lower bunk, put a chair in the hot shower and, once clean, led me back for a long nap. Later, she helped my up the stairs to the restaurant. I had the most fantastic salad and a bottle of vinotinto. Each of my next CF Caminos I made it a priority to eat there. Fantastico!!!

I stayed there in May 2017. I really liked our room with a window looking over the river.

The restaurant is still open so I assume they will still do breakfast and I suspect that has always been the most profitable part of the business. They have also opened an upmarket and expensive pension called O Padrino (the Godfather) somewhere in the town.
