Any recommendations for an Albergue in Zubiri which was a standout in any way . Looking to stay in those special places that make the Camino so memorable.
Thanks Denzil

You used the term "hostel", which is not used very often on the Camino, and will cause a lot of confusion if you don't understand some differences. My guess is that you are not asking about either a hostel or hostal; rather you probably are interested in an albergue.

The term "hostel" is not used much in Spain, so put it out of your mind. On the camino, it will only cause confusion.

"Hostal" (plural: hostales) are like small hotels, often family-run, with fewer amenities than a proper hotel. Pretty much the same as a pension. This is one of the most common types of accommodation in Spain.

"Albergue" is what we might call "hostel" - where you get a bed in a room with many others. Sometimes albergues will also also have some private rooms you can rent for 1 or 2 people only.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Last week, I tried to reserve Albergue Susie for 1 night in April, and it was fully booked! Call me shocked, but that was not the only place. A bit farther on, the same thing. There is a group of 12 who is booking already. With the smaller albergues, this takes all of the beds.
So, am going to try and reserve with Segunda Etappa. I stayed there in 2018 and really liked it. Wonderful hostess and comfy beds.

Albergue Susei is in Zubiri and lots of people rave about it and has a nice communal dinner. My daughter stayed there and loved it.

I stayed in Albergue El Palo de Avellano which had a nice room - but there was no communal dinner when I walked due to COVID.
Second Albergue Suseia. Stayed there twice. Lovely welcome, very clean and comfortable and lovely food.

If you aren’t able to find a bed in Zubiri, Larrasoaña is just another 6 km up the road toward Pamplona. On my first CF, I stayed at the very pleasant Albergue San Nicolas. Modern, comfortable and offered a delicious “optional” communal dinner. Because I was just that much closer to Pamplona, I arrived mid-morning and was able to enjoy nearly an entire Sunday in this great city before moving on the next morning. Pamplona, one of my favorite towns along the Camino for tapas.

In Zubiri, we stayed at a lovely casa rural, the Txantxorena. This may not be the category of housing that you’re looking for, but as a converted old mill, it certainly qualifies as a memorable spot on the CF and right in the heart of the village.
Sounds great I’ll check it out, thank you

Thanks for your advice and recommendation

On my first CF in Zubiri I stayed at the old albergue at the old school. It was nothing flash with showers and toilets in another building but I loved the experience, which is why I am on a Camino. My last time in Zubiri, the old school was shut for repairs so I stayed at the albergue which is first on the right after crossing the bridge. Not flash but it did the job and that is all I ask.

I loved staying in this alberque in Zubiri. No communal meal but sits by the river and easy access to cafes, restaurants.

Buen Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thanks for the recommendation for the Hazel Stick. Excited to check it out in April. It looks great.

Thank you, I’ll check it out. I really appreciate all the great advice from so many people

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

FYI - the Spanish name is El Palo Avellano. I think that they must have used some translation program for their website that translated too well and changed the name!

I stayed there on my first Camino and liked it.
