Albergue Santa Fé in Cardeñuela Riopico

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino francés 2010-14, 2016-17, and July 2019 (deo volente).
Yesterday I stayed at Albergue Santa Fé in Cardeñuela Riopico. I am on my 8th camino and have stayed in lots of albergues. Never before have I met such an unpleasant hospitalera as the woman who seems to run this albergue. She acted in an unfriendly manner from the second I and my wife entered the building early in the afternoon. Not one friendly world, not a single hint of a smile. Just an an angry face. A fitting sort of climax was the dinner: seven pilgrims trying to eat and the woman showing open, relentless hostility. We decided to ignore her and had great fun in spite of everything.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
We had a lovely stay here four years ago, with an amazing shared meal, incredible tasting soup

My wife and I stayed there in July 2016 and found her in a foul mood. It transpired that contrary to her usual policy she’d taken pity on a young lad and his dog the previous evening and had let them have a room together. The afternoon we got there the guest who had just taken over the young lad’s room found themselves covered in flea bites before dinner. This set the tone for the evening. The communal dinner was cheerful but the lady’s mood lifted not a jot. She was though somewhat happier when we left the next morning. It can’t be easy running an albergue.

Very strange to read these comments. I've stayed there twice, in 2015 and 2017, and it was great. The owner was very welcoming and friendly, and we had a lovely dinner. Amazing value, comfortable private room with bath for IIRC about 35 euro. Everyone can have a bad day, it's a pity to see a specific place singled out like this. Especially when nothing about the place itself is mentioned - just the apparent rudeness of the host. A bit unfair.

The rudeness and the hostility was obvious to everybody present. I will never return to this horrible place.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

And your outrage is obvious now to thousands of people who visit this forum every day. You might have made a more positive contribution to future pilgrims experience by addressing your issues to the individual concerned or to the owners of this private business. Happily this post doesn't yet make the front page of a godgle.com search
