Alternative Accommodation in Leon - Recommendation.

IMO opinion Leon is well worth a couple of days. A city I love with one of the friendliest, cheap hotels I've ever known. These people have been very generous and kind to me during my Four visits to Leon. If you fancy a break from the albergue scene, single rooms from just €18, twin rooms en-suite from €22.

Hotel Reina close to the library just of Av, de la Indepencia. Mention John the pilgrim artist and you may get a smile, or a laugh even if you don't get a discount. Basic, but clean, comfortable and cheerfully decorated. They may also point you in the direction of Pension Blanca (free internet and kitchen facilities from just €16/night).

A blatant plug because these good people deserve it.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Thanks for the heads up on leon accommodations....much appreciated. We head out on April 25 from Pamplona...Any other suggestions? And do you think we can do that distance in five weeks?

I would also recommend the very reasonable Hostal San Martin (http://www.sanmartinhostales.com/) upstairs on Plaza Ordono IV. 22E for single with shared bathroom, and 30E for a private bathroom. It is clean and comfortable, looking on to the Parque El Cid. The Ruta Jacobea restaurant, which I think is just downstairs or just around the corner, is very good value for a slightly upmarket (14E) menu de dia.
