Aluminum backpack stays and TSA

Has TSA ever required removal of aluminum stays from an internal frame backpack that is carried on?
Do I need to remove and check them with my poles? I can replace poles that do not arrive but I really think losing my back pack stays would be a problem so I would rather carry them on in the pack.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Not an issue. No need to remove.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Don't worry. As far as you are concerned, the stays are non-removable...don't debate this...just roll with it.

The TSA and their colleagues worldwide are concerned with items that are ready and close-to-hand weapons. That is why pointy-tipped things like tungsten tipped hiking poles / walking sticks are not allowed.

Then there is the whole sharp edged, knife thing.... For example, I am able to bring a pair of child's scissors with rounded tips, but razor sharp edges, on board. I use this to open my protein powder packets. However, the same scissor with a pointy tip is not allowed...go figure...

If in doubt, either check it, or buy it over there.

Hope this helps.

Travelled round the world carrying my poles with my backpack as carry-on luggage. Slight problem in Ecuador, but not in Spain.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
My walking poles were taken by TSA in Madrid in August of 2017! I was able to replace them easily in St. jean, but those walking sticks held some sentimental value for my husband! Alas!
