Hola
You may have read in other threads that the Pilgrims' Office will move at some point to bigger and better premises close to the Plaza Obradoiro. The government has awarded the Cathedral a grant of 1.5 million € for the conversion of a church-owned building. This will also house left luggage, bicycle store, a tourist information point and a cafeteria. All good for pilgrims!
However it is not yet clear what the layout will be for these various elements and how volunteers can best function to be value added. The Cathedral is also looking at staffing levels going forward and of course I hope that more jobs will be created.
In the circumstances I thought it best to wait until everything is in place in the new premises before repeating the Amigos Welcome Service. In any event some of the participating organisations, the CSJ in particular are cash strapped at the moment. So this is a timely break and volunteers can avoid the inevitable chaos and state of flux which will exist as all of this comes together.
For the next year I will be concentrating on developing the Camino Chaplaincy. This year there will be two services a day in the cathedral for English speaking pilgrims plus gatherings in the Pilgrims' House. I will still be a contact for English speaking pilgrims who encounter difficulties and for lost Compostelas!
More details of the Camino Chaplaincy activities later.
Regards
John
