Hello all! I am a first time walker, and am planning on beginning the camino in the first week of may starting from Roncevalles. Are there any groups leaving that same time?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi....and welcome!

You will find that there are many individuals that will depart from Roncesvalles during that month. May I suggest that you take a look at the Class of 2009 Topic and the calendar...just to cover some bases. Also, use the topic search engine to focus in on any specific areas, such as: gear, albergue ratings.

I'm certain you will have several Forum members respond to this topic...that's just the Way we are.

Congrats on making the decision to walk the Way...your experiences will remain with you for a long time.

Buen Camino

The Calendar shows some others starting to firm up their plans for a May start. I'm not in a group, just solo behind you... starting from Saint Jean Pied de Port on Sunday, May 10. If you wear the Pilgrim Forum badge on your pack, maybe we'll spot each other along the way.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Nicki,

Make sure you ask the folks at the Pilgrim Office of recent signees. Or, just hang around and you'll meet many. I'd suggest you stay across the lane at the pilgrim albergue there. Fantastic folks. Also, check ahead for space at the Refugio Orisson...it's about half way to Roncesvalles and well worth the stop.
Buen Camino,

Arn

One thing I also did was leave little notes in the albergues' pilgrim books. I saw notes from people of our forum who were there before me and one person from the forum was behind me, got my email, connected with me and we managed to meet up in Santiago. It was so cool.

You will find plenty of pilgrims in May, no problem, groups, individuals...

One piece of advice: May 1st-3rd is a holiday in Spain, and last year there were HUNDREDS of pilgrims starting off Roncesvalles on those dates. I would recommend starting on May 4th at least, I would definitely avoid Roncesvalles on May 1st-3rd.

Enjoy your pilgrimage, May is a beautiful time of the year, but beware you might still find cold days!

Helo Amancio,
I am a new member also and have got a lot of advice and information from this forum. It is very helpful. I will be start my walk in May 2009 also but will commence about the 20th or so.
I hope to meet some of the forum members along the way.
Not sure how to access the Diary.
I need to lean a bit more on navigating within the forum so I can find the Diary.
How are you going with your preparations?
Regards Begonia

PS Have a great walk!!!!!!!!
