Wow, @Vacajoe .
Normally, not covidtime, I would be in Volcano/Hilo right now. But I am in Asia and sitting tight until the end of all this. So sorry...it would be really nice to meet and maybe have a walk on bayfront or up in the park.
Safe journey and buen camino!
(And please give my aloha to Hilo. Born there...it's a very special place.)

Hi Vacajoe - I grew up outside Pahoa (our house was destroyed by the 2018 flow) - and lived in Hilo for a while when I was a kid... such a special place. So nice to see a fellow pilgrim there! Are doing the CF and starting SJPDP? I am starting end of September in Burgos (can't do the whole thing due to time limitations). Super excited to be pilgriming again.
Hello, I'm on Maui, had myself set for sept. 8, cancelled after reading the threads for
several days.I'm holding out for spring, hoping for more albergues to be open and
less restrictions.Blessings to you along the way, will look forward to sharing your
walked twice before, but new to the Camino Portuguese this time (plus service as a hospitalero in the Aragon Valley!). In Puna for a short time housesitting for a pilgrim friend. Lots of potential training hikes around here, for sure!
I actually have been fortunate enough to have stayed twice at the Kapoho Beach Lots — miss it terribly. I was actually here when the lava took them, too, and have since walked out to the new land and black sand beaches out there. It’s really something to see the awesome power of nature in both destruction and creation.
We had a house that was two lots away from the '55 flow. So my Dad sold. Couple of family friends kept theirs...but in the end...pffft.
Pele wanted to clean things up.
I just hope someone rescued the honu in the ponds.
