Any wineries or vineyards to visit along porto-SDC route?

2016 portugese camino
Hi,

We plan to do our first camino in a few weeks starting in Porto on 6th June giving ourselves 11 days to do it all and the possibility to take 1-2 days off as our feet dictates!

Just wondering if theres any vineyards or wineries we can visit along the way? - we're taking the main Portuguese route.

We were in madrid last year and visited some tiny local wineries around Aranjuez which we loved and would love to visit some this time too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,
Martina.

Martina,

Welcome to the Forum!

Before you leave the Porto area do visit one of the many winehouses which produce this delicious wine. ((Tap on the underlined link to read more)

For further research re wine visits along the CP itself see this handy list of wine areas and vineyard links with maps from Visit Portugal.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
We are staying ( it's a splurge, mind you) at Enoturismo Novavila Rias Baixas Wine Design in the middle of May which is in Meis - so a bit of a diversion from the Camino by about 5km (between Pontevedra and Caldas de Reis). I'm not sure if they make wine at that location but the accommodation has a pool, sauna and fitness centre. They also list the distances from their place to wineries:

Mar De Frades Winery - 4.9 km / 3.1 mi

Santiago Roma Winery - 5 km / 3.1 mi

Ruta da Pedra e da Auga - 7 km / 4.4 mi

Pazo Baion Winery - 8.1 km / 5 mi

Granbazan Winery - 10.5 km / 6.5 mi

Martin Codax Winery - 12 km / 7.5 mi

Ethnographic and Wine Museum - 12.2 km / 7.6 mi

Not sure if we'll have the energy to visit any of these but here's the info!

Buen Camino!

Dave,
I just peeked at the photos of the place where you will be staying and it looks splendid. Please do report on how you enjoy it.
Carpe diem and Buen camino.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Buen Camino!
Although I am not a fan of the Variante Espiritual del Camino Português , some of wineries are moreless around this route so you could walk the variante espiritual through the Salnés area on your way to Santiago.
And if you are a golf fanatic ⛳🏌️‍♀️take your clubs with you.😉 In Meis is a very nice golfplace with great views over the area.

bom caminho

I look forward to hearing the daily reports from peregrinos/as carrying their golf clubs along the Caminho Português!

Probably they can rent a set and a buggy.
when we were there in 2016 we had our own set with us but to be honest, we came by car and our caravan and did not walk that year. But were hospitaleiros at Casa da Fernanda in Vitorino dos Piães Portugal
we were there about 3 weeks, parked our caravan at a camping just outside Ponte de Lima.
later on we toured in Spain and stayed in the Salnés area where the variante spiritual trail is situated,
At the golfplace Tiger Wood could hit the monastry of Armenteira if he wished. So close it Is.
