Is anyone on the Via de la Plata right now?

Any news on the water situation? Are the wells still dry, or is there water between stages?

Weather?

Thanks.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I don't know how others feel about it, but I don't depend on there being drinking water in the fountains. I can hike pretty far on a bit of cheese and chorizo, but I dread walking without any water. On the VDLP I would leave the albergue in the morning with two litres of water which I rationed to last the whole day. I'd drink an extra 1/2 litre in when I first woke up, and 1/2 litre again in the evening.

I know many pilgrims drink tap water from the albergues, but I always bought bottled water. It is a small price to pay to avoid stomach upset.

As for their being other pilgrims right now on the VDLP, if you are alone in the albergue, check the guest book. I would find that I was a day or two behind another pilgrim. Reading their note was a bit of contact for the day.

Happy trails,

Hola,

I am on the VdlP right now, two days away from Santiago. Left Sevilla on the 23rd of August and made it all the way, with a bad foot as a result of lack of water in Extremadura. Not an easy task at that time of the year but rewarding never the less.

Cheers,
Jean-Marc

Way to go, Canuck!

If you've had a bad foot since Extremadura, you've nursed it a long way.
I am impressed by your fortitude.

Hug the Apostle for me when you arrive in Santiago.

As I´m on the Camino de Levante, I´m now on the Camino de Sanabria art of the VDL. I´m in Santa Croya de Tera, 1km from Santa Marta with this:

If you come through Santa Croya, stay in Casa Anita, the very good and reasonable rivate albergue where Anita and Domingo, both eregrinos, will give you a lot of care.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The vintage being drunk today es muy bien and the French peregrinos here agree with me

Hi
Just got back from Santiago- completed the Via on Friday 9th - and been 'blissed out' ever since. The way was everything I hoped..and more. Looks like we must have arrived the same day Jean-Marc? Well done with the bad foot - the Via is a tough ask, even when fully fit.
I too stayed at Casa Anita and found the wine to be very drinkable!
Concerning water, I drank tap water from the refugues the whole way and, despite the horrid clorinated taste in some regions, never had any problems with it. Tap water in Spain is perfectly drinkable and, to my mind at least, is preferable to the waste involved with bottled water (I don't need to repeat the arguments, they are well known).

Hi Rich,

Came in at 11h00 sharp on the 9th. Met my wife in a small street behind the Cathedral. She was coming in from the Camino Frances. A nice way to finish. We have been celebrating and resting since in A Coruna, Lugo and Santiago.
The Cafe Casino is running out of Cava...

Cheers,
Jean-Marc
