April-May Weather - Current Forecasts vs Actuality

Time of past OR future Camino
Leon to Santiago (MAY-JUNE 2013)
SJPDP to Santiago (APRIL-MAY 2017)
So... I fly out tomorrow evening to make my way to SJPP and walk my second Camino (walked from Leon to Santiago starting in late May 4 years ago), but I'm worried I planned for cooler weather than Spain is actually having.

I had everything packed up, thinking that it would be a bit cooler than when I last walked since I'm starting a month earlier, but in looking at the current temperatures of several stops along the CF, I'm shocked by how warm it appears to be! Now I'm thinking I should revise some of my clothing to be more geared for warm weather.

Can anyone weigh in on current temp vs how-it-feels-walking-on-the-Camino temp?

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

The weather is unseasonably warm, it is probably unlikely to continue but.... The maximum temps that you see are for late afternoon so aim to finish fairly early, however the long term forecast that I saw this morning does seem to believe that it will rain next week. I would just be sure to have a T-shirt and some sun cream, the sun is hot when it's beating down on you for several hours :) you may still need your warmer clothes in some albergues and when walking in the morning.

Just back yesterday from a 2 night stay in Spanish Basque country at a coastal town near Bilbao / Gernika. Travelled by car from sunny France, Pyrenees looked stunning in the sunshine. On Basque coastline we found thick sea mist and it was chilly. Next day misty by the sea, midday sunshine and temps 18C very comfortable and would have been great for walking. Day 3 temperatures fresh but mist had lifted. Drove back to S.W..France yesterday where it was 22C and sunny.

When I was in Palas de Rei in March, the hospitalero said it was the latest snow in his sixty-plus year life!! Now it is hot.

Weather forecasts are 100% correct, but not for the date under consideration...

Be prepared for anything by going for the suggested layering.

Don't forget that if you opt to repack/plan for warmer weather and the weather does take a turn for the cooler, you can always buy an extra layer (say a fleece pullover) along the Camino at any number of stores along the Way.

Tigger and Kanga: It will rain after the snow of course, but Buen Camino anyway
