If anyone has just left Le Puy, I'd be grateful to learn whether some of the gîtes are closing for the season. (We will start out next Saturday from Le Puy and spend 14 days on the Chemin du Puy.)

Thanks.

There's the pre-planned "official" closing and then there's the "hmm - no reservations this week, let's take a few says off and go visit the kids" unofficial situation. Make sure you have a copy of MMD (can get it in Le Puy) and call a couple days ahead to check whether they'll be actually open. That's a good time to check on whether shops for supplies will be open as well. Bon Chemin!

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

I have had heard from some friends that are currently walking the Le Puy route that a number of gites are not open or are closing, so calling ahead seems to be necessary. They were in Figeac a couple of days ago and we surprised by the number of gites that had closed

Thanks for your replies, jirit and Kitsambler.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
I am currently walking the The Puy route and have found a few situations already where Gites have closed early for the season. I keep hearing that the number of pilgrims is low at this point. I left Le-Puy-en-Velay four days ago, currently in Aumont-Aubrac and have met a grand total of two pilgrims on the route so far. I understand that I am a day or so behind a half dozen or so pilgrims so maybe I just caught a time when others were watching weather reports...so far it's been interesting on the weather front.

I was sure glad I'm from Canada yesterday when I walked through a full day of snow!

Hello - In our region of France many of the gites start to close in October but not all. If you're in a town or village and the mairie is open they'll have a list of all local accommodation, the local tourist office may even phone ahead for you. We've managed to have lots of holidays out of season so hopefully you'll find enough choice.

good luck!
