Hello, I arrive at the Porto airport next Wednesday, the 24th, at 23:40.
How can I go to the city center at that time of the night?
I'm planning to set off the next morning, first stopping by the Cathedral to stamp my passport and then taking the metro to Povoa de Varzim, starting the camino from Rates.
So I guess staying in a hostel at the center (haven't reserved yet) is the most reasonable. But I see there's no or scarce transportation from the airport to the center...What say you?
Thank you for your time.

The metro subway runs regularly from the airport between 6am to 1 am.

When I started a Camino from Porto in 2015. I arrived at the train station after midnight. My flight into Lisbon was delayed, and I only managed to catch the last train of the night from Lisbon to Porto.

Anyway, I took a taxi to my reserved hotel. That is what I advise. Taxis are not that expensive and the peace of mind and added safety is worth it.

The bigger issue is whether the hostel will be open to receive you at the late hour? Hotels usually have 24-hour reception desks. Not so in albergues and hostels...

Check it out first, so you do not end up sleeping rough on your first night in Portugal...

Hope this helps.
