Hello,
I am walking the Camino in May. I am planning to arrive in Rabanal around 7 pm on Friday 20th May.
Will I be able to get accommodation at that time, either in a Hostel or a Refugio ?.
Many thanks,

Irish Walker.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
I don't think anyone can say for sure, but personally I wouldn't mind arriving at that time at that time of year.
If it's completo what do you do??? There is other more expensive accomodation available there.
Depending on how far you've already walked your options are back track to El Ganso (not really ) or assuming weather is favourable continue on 6km to Foncebadon or 10km to Manjarin.

Last year I spent 18 days in Rabanal as hospitalera at the Refugio Guacelmo, so I know the village pretty well! There are 4 Albergues, 2 private, namely the El Tesín (which I was surprised to see yesterday that they seem to have changed their name to La Senda), it's on the main street at the beginning of the village and they will take a reservation if you call through. Then there's El Pilar, very reccomendable, situated at the back of the village on the large square. They do take reservations, but I think just for groups, but you could always try and call through. Almost next door to El Pilar is the Municipal Albergue (no reservations allowed) and finally there is the super Refugio Guacelmo (here I'm spoilt for choice)! No reservations taken though. Arriving at 7.00 p.m. is a bit late, but as there is no big public holiday that weekend, you should be lucky. When I was there, the situation was a bit different, because it was from mid to end Sept and only on one or two occasions did we have to turn someone away. It's a stiff walk up to Foncebadón, especially as it will be getting late and you still won't know if there is availability there. If you are really worried, I would stop earlier at El Ganso. Anne

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hello,
Many thanks for your kind advise. I found it reassuring.
Everything went well.I got accommodation in the hotel, La Posada de Gaspar.I stayed there before
a few times, when cycling alongside the camino on a road bike.
It was my first time to walk on the camino and I found it very enjoyable.
I chose the section between Astorga and Sarria as that is my favorite part.
I was unable to leave Astorga until around 2pm,as my bus arrived to the town around 1.30pm.
I walked steadily to Rabanal with a ten minute break, 2k before El Ganso. I arrived in Rabanal
before 6pm.
From there to Sarria I could relax and enjoy the route, the company of other pilgrims and the excellent weather.
I hope to walk another section next year.

Hi Anna,
Can you please tell me where Posada de Gaspar is in Rabanal. I have gone on to Google maps but it doesn't give me street names or recognise the name of the posada when I type in Calle Real 27-29. I am trying to do a comparison between it and Acruzdeferro and Hostal el Refugio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Sriyantra

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Both the Hostal El Refugio and the Pousada de Caspar are on the Calle Real in Rabanal del Camino within a few paces of each other on opposite sides of the Calle which also is the Camino Frances. I have never stayed in either but have eaten in both; the food and welcome at El Refugio are always VERY GOOD.
