Astorga to Santiago

Hi.
My sister and I are starting our 3rd and 2nd pilgrimages respectively in a couple of weeks and have decided to start from Astorga due to time restaints. I was just wondering if anyone knew the best way to get from Santiago to Astorga? We fly into Santiago, arriving about 1pm. Any help or advice anyone can give us would be greatly appreciated. It is true that once you'cve walked the camino, it's always with you. Neither of us can wait to get started.
Thanks
Becky

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I am doing exactly the same thing & was going to take the bus from Santiago, but would need to wait until the evening bus, arriving in Astorga around 2 in the morning (which did not feel entirely safe to me) so I have decided to stay a night in Santiago & then take the train the next day. Also, I decided that I wanted to have some time in Astorga to see the town since it sounds interesting & has some Gaudi architecture. The problem is that the buses run either early or late & (like you) my plane from Madrid would not get me there in time for the early departure. This is my first time doing this as well, so I hope this turns out to be a reasonable plan (assuming I can get a reservation in Santiago for one night).

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Do I understand that you are planning to fly from Madrid to Santiago and then take the bus back to Astorga? If so, it would be faster and cheaper to take the bus from Madrid to Astorga. It is a 3.5-4 hr trip and there are mores buses/day than from Santiago and the fare would be less. You can use the ALSA schedule to check them.

It's true, the best choice is by bus, from Madrid or Santiago, but being in Madrid it does not make sense to go first to Santiago, because budget and time reasons.
