Aug/Sept Advice

I will be walking from SJDPDP 25th Aug this year to SDC would appreciate recommendation for lightweight fleece and sleeping bag for that time of year.

Stpatricksbhoy, I walked at that time in 2007. If the weather is the same as it was then, you can get by with a lightweight fleece and a silk sleep liner. Most pilgrim refuges have blankets and if it gets cold, you can always dress in layers. The smaller albergues warm up when they are full of snoring, suffling peregrinos!

Hi there Stpatricksbhoy,

I will starting at SJPP about the same time frame. I was planning on being there around the 13th but I just found something of great interest for me so I don't think I will be starting until about the same time frame. I'm carrying my 2lb down sleeping bag as well as a silk liner.. probably overkill but I'm willing to carry it.

I bought all of the lightweight wicking clothing from REI (in the US) or at my local goodwills....
hopefully we will meet on the Way!!

A friend did her Camino last September and when I asked what she would do differently, she said: take a sleeping bag! She took a silk liner and said she almost froze to death several nights--to the extent she asked everyone around to pile clothing on her. I'd rather sleep warm even for the weight of a bag. My body shuts down around midnight. If it's too warm, I can sleep on top of it but I cannot sleep when I am shivering. I am taking a 40+ degree bag rather than my 20 degree down bag. I think it's all about knowing how you sleep because sleep is critical to the body's recovery. If you generally prefer to be on the cooler side, take a liner. You can always put on all your clothes and be fine if it is cold. If you need to snuggle down, take a bag or a fleece liner.

Good advice,I have been out buying lightweight wicking clothing from Tiso in Scotland,breaking new boots in ,walking 5-8 miles four times per week and playing golf in between.Hoping to walk up Ben Lomond on Tuesday 7 miles to a height of 3,250 Ft.need to start walking with rucksack some time soon,also need to buy the sleeping bag.
