Backpack Osprey 48

I Just received the following email, four days after I mailed my well used (2 1/2 year old) Osprey pack to Outdoor Agencies to repair the shoulder strap. I'm shocked at their graciousness, and even if they didn't repair it, I was going to buy a new one as I love the design and that it's hand luggage on planes. Well done Osprey for looking after your customers. I'm impressed.

Upon receiving your bag back we have found the fault and unfortunately we do not have any spare parts to fix it at the moment.
We would like to offer you a replacement Kestrel 48 M/L in the colour of your choice.
The colours available are:
Tarn Blue
Talus Grey
Fire Red

I used my Kestrel 48 on two Camino Frances, in 2013 and 2014. After each use, I inspect it for damage, nothing serious yet.

Then I soak and rinse the rucksack in a bath using a product called "Nikwax Tech Wash." This is what Osprey recommends you use to clean and re-waterproof your rucksack. It works wonderfully. I use a small "vegetable" brush to work stains and smudges from the fabric. I obtained it at my Osprey dealer and hiking supply store (REI here in the States).

I intend to use my Kestrel 48 until something serious fails. Based on the several threads here, I shall have no doubts about returning it to Osprey under their warranty. It is clearly one of the best in the business.

I notice you're walking in Portugal this year. I'll be starting from Lisbon in September, I'll look out for your Kestrel 48, mines blue.

I do not yet know when I will be doing this. Current work commitments occupy most of my time though late July. After that, I am free for the remainder of the calendar year.

However, you cannot miss me along the Camino. My FOLIAGE GREEN Osprey Kestrel 48 is festooned with Camino patches and I wear a black or grey chest pack of my own configuration to balance my load. My water is distributed about my body in multiple small bottles attached to my harness to better distribute weight.

I have also adopted a green color scheme, all shades of green. I prefer very bright, even neon, shades of green. In fact, I sometimes am more colorful than a parrot and I have a selfie with "Pancho" to prove it.

Besides, I can usually be picked out in a crowd or string of pilgrims as the sober, serious pilgrim, who simply gets on with it, helping everyone I encounter along The Way. It seems to be my calling. I give stuff away, fix broken poles and rucksacks, tend to medical problems, transportation issues, hand out extra potable water, and offer helpful advice when and where I can.

Also, I prefer staying in hostals or small hotels to albergues. While youth may be wasted on the young, respiratory illness seems to follow me on my Caminos. After two full Camino Frances pilgrimages, I learned to budget more and stay in a reserved room with private bath and a locked door whenever possible. That solved the chest problems and made each Camino more meaningful, if a tad more expensive. In this regard, I will occasionally share a double with another pilgrim I encounter who wants the relative luxury of sleeping on clean sheets (separate bed) at a lower price.

I have tentative plans to do the Camino Portuguese sometime in August, maybe. I have not yet decided whether I will start north of Lisbon, like as Azambuja, or simply begin at the Cathedral in Porto.

I already have solid plans to do the Camino Ingles with a friend who lives in Biarritz starting on or about 27 August. I suppose I could flip the Portuguese into September, especially if one or more forum members wantg to form an informal group.

Let me know if you or anyone else might be interested. Please provide dates if known. I would fly into Lisbon then take a train to my starting point.

Wow...washing and cleaning all of the good stuff off from your "experienced" pack. That is the badge of honor that has been earned by much sweat and pain. I would think you would want the world to see and admire.

I have the Osprey 48 and the top detachable bag has to utilize the same clips as top. I asked him for 2 x 15mm spares and he posted to me along with 20mm no charge. Awesome service.

Hi Don,
We now don't align and in August I'm walking the EPW, Vienna to Trieste.
In January I spent a week in a monastery in New Norcia, Western Australua and the wonderful Spanish monk who created the town Dom Rosendo Salvado came from Tui. Wished I'd looked for him when I walked through Tui in 2013. I loved that work.
Since retirement three years ago, I walk in Europe from April to October, so our paths may cross.
