Hello friends,

I'm flying into Madrid in a few weeks and taking a bus to Burgos to start the Camino. But I'm wondering once I finish, what is the best way to travel back to either Burgos or Madrid? Bus? Train? About how long does each take, and what are the expenses?

Many thanks,

Adam

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Adam,

You have several options, train, bus and plane.

1) Train

(check prices and times on the link above)

2) Bus

(check prices and times on the link above)

3) Plane (to Madrid only)

http://www.iberia.com
http://www.aireuropa.com
Make sure to allow plenty of time to change planes in Madrid since the new airport is rather large and it takes time to change terminals.

What would I recommend?
If you would like to see the scenery, bus. If you would like to get there fast, fly. Flights can be just as cheap as the bus or train if you book ahead. The trains works as well, but are rather old and takes a looong time.

Un saludo,
Ivar

Hi Adam,
Ivars website gives you best information. Click on Santiago today, then airport, then bus schedule and there you will find the connection Santiago - Madrid ( cost one way around 37 Euros, run by Alsa). You also can go by train - it´s a bit more expensive an the train doesn´t run so often.
Good luck on your camino

I am doing the same as you : arriving in Madrid next tuesday, going to Burgos by bus and from there completing the Camino I stopped in Burgos in 2005.

To return I already booked the 6.30 am Spanair flight to Madrid at the cost of $62 canadian. You may attempt to book a Vueling flight as they may be cheaper since they will open a new route.

I am REALLY getting nervous as the day of the departure is approaching FAST....Buen Camino to you and all the others pilgrims.

Hello again,

So when I arrive in Madrid, any suggestions on which bus line to take to Burgos? My thinking is that my Spanish could pass 8th grade but not engage anyone fluently. So I want to try and book the bus in advance and avoid as little confusion as possible.

I was looking at Alsa but can't find anything that goes to Burgos. Is this something that will just need to be done when I arrive? And if is, again, any thoughts on which bus line to take?

Thanks,

Adam
