Hello Forum friends! In less than 2 weeks I will be walking the Coastal route with my sister, a good friend, her son and daughter in law. My sister asked about bringing a bathing suit. I have never brought one before (this will be #4.) Have others brought swimming suits? Is it worth the weight? We are walking in mid-September. Thanks for your input.

If you like swimming in frigid water, yes;-)
For the record, I asked the same question in 2015 and was convinced not to take one. I was never tempted to get wet!
On the Via de la Plata, it's a different story. There are baths at Banos de Montemeyer (disappointingly tepid rather than warm) and beautiful natural rock pools at Oviedo - so on that route it's well worth taking togs. Some people just wear their underwear.

Thanks for your response. I had the same thought about wearing my underwear!! (if it's warm enough!!)

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
I bring bikini bottoms and wear my bra. I've only had a few opportunites to swim, but when you are staying at an albergue with a pool on a 30+C day you will be happy that you carried the extra weight. Plus they can double as emergency underwear.

Hi, it's the Atlantic Ocean and cold. By mid-September the water will be very cold :(.
But perfect walking weather! (If it's not raining, and blowing a gale :p.)

I went for a paddle at a beach near Vigo in October last year late afternoon while my better half had a snooze at a hotel.

The water was very cold but after a period of foot to knee imersion, it became curiously comfortable. I recon if you plunged in, you'd have your breath taken away at first.

The cold reminds me of swimming club training at a child / teenager in a cold water pool during winter in Victoria, Australia during which one's feet and hands turn blue after a while.

The club house had a bank of electric heaters on a wall inside where one could feel the delicious heat after a shivery session.

There were people swimming though and lots of kids in the water on the beach oblivious to the cold (for a while anyhow - no heaters on the wall afterwards though).

We did see some nudists on another beach from a distance so goodness knows what effect the cold water might have! Not going there o_O

To swim or not to swim, that is the question

Cheers

Graham
