Greetings My People! I'm finally on my way tomorrow, 10/4/16. Flying into Barcelona then train to Pamplona? . Can anyone recommend how I should get up to SJDPD? How's the weather up there? Thanks so much! I should start walking on the 7th. Anyone else starting then?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
SJPdP is connected to Bayonne by SNCF train 4 x daily all year. SJPdP is connected to Pamplona by CONDA (ALSA) bus on seasonal schedule that varies (currently (3 Oct 2016) two daily). Transports64 operates bus service from SJPdP to St Palais where other buses connect to Bayonne or Orthez.

1. Easiest. Fly Barcelona to San Sebastian EAS. Airport is located approx 5 km from Gare d'Hendaye. Ekialdebus to Colon bus stop and Metro Donostialdea from Irun Colon to Hendaia or take taxi. Take SNCF train from Hendaye to Bayonne and Bayonne to SJPdP.

2. Cheapest. Renfe Cercanias from Airport to Barcelona Sants. Renfe train or Vibasa (Monbus) bus from Sants to Pamplona. Or, ALSA bus from Barcelona Estacio Nord to Pamplona via Zaragosa. Then CONDA (ALSA) bus from Pamplona to SJPdP. Note last bus from Pamplona leaves 1730. If you arrive late you wait till next day 1430. This means you need to be on Renfe train from Sants at 1210.

3. Renfe train goes on to Irun. Some trains continue to Hendaye in France. Irun Renfe station is located south of and across the railway bridge from Irun Colon Metro station described at 1. If you can't make the Pamplona 1730 bus Irun might be a better place to overnight. The SNCF train from Hendaye to Bayonne start running at 0500 and the first from Bayonne to SJPdP leaves 0745 and otherwise runs 4 times daily all year.

Also, ALSA bus goes from Pamplona to San Sebastian bus station located next to Renfe station. San Sebastian Renfe Cercanias goes to Irun.

4. SNCF/Renfe train from Barcelona to Toulouse and from Toulouse to Bayonne. Schedule might work better than travel via Irun.

@whariwharangi explanation is very thorough...one other way (unless it is changed) is to take the train from Barcelona Sants to Pamplona, then take either the bus to SJPdP, or a taxi to SJPdP (more cost effective if you are in a group, or get a group together...I met two other pilgrims at Sants station (hard to miss a pilgrim sitting there with business men in suits waiting for their train) and we agree to split a cab (not as cheap as the bus to St Jean)
buen camino
ps...please tell me you are going to enjoy Barcelona before you fly out...see Sagrada Familia, the barri gotic and eixample, parc guell, and of course montserrat?

I would contact Corazon Puro in Viskarrett asap. They will collect you from Pamplona, take you to their lovely hostel where you can sleep over, have dinner and they'll drop you to SJPP early the next morning after breakfast.

I have some information that you may find useful. Someday I should organize it better but right now I've just collected it with cuts and pastes.

---------------------------

Go to https:/www.alsa.es/en/ and click in the "Point of departure" type-in box. A pop-up allows you to pick a "Departure country" of "Spain." Then in the "Point of departure" box start typing "Pamplona" (without the quotes). As you type the name the pop-up starts showing fewer and fewer names until you can either finish typing or click on one of the names shown in the pop-up. Next do something similar in the "Destination" type-in box and pick "France" in the pop-up. Go back to the "Destination" type-in box and (this is the secret) type in the name "Saint Jean de Pied de Port" (without the quotes). If you abbreviate "Saint" as "St" or "St." then Alsa won't find the town.

Would you know if the bus depot in Pamplona is close to they train station?

Some train information:

This one has some useful information too:

For Pamplona if you go to http://www.infotuc.es/index.php/es/ (in Spanish but usable) you can see the bus route from the RENFE train station to the bus station to get you to St. Jean. That is route L9 (line/linea 9). In the box labeled "HORARIOS Y SERVICIOS" pick the circle numbered "9" or in the box labeled "TIEMPO REAL" chose the drop-down item "RENFE - UNIVERSIDAD PÚBLICA DE NAVARRA". In either case you should see a map of the city and the bus route you want. The RENFE station is at the far left/west and you see the route travels just north of a large park, La Ciudadela. Zoom in on the map and you can see a building located at the east end of the park (within the park) marked with a bus symbol. That is where you get the bus to St. Jean. The road that the station fronts, Calle Yanguas y Miranda, is between two line 9 stops.

The Pamplona street bus page at http://www.infotuc.es/index.php/es/destinos-frecuentes/category/accesos-ciudad-2 will show you where the airport and bus and train stations are located and what street bus routes to take to each. Use the "open/abrir" arrow on the right to get the map.
