Time of past OR future Camino
Portuguese from Tui-Santiago(may2017)
My daughter and I arrive May 19 in Lisbon and plan to explore and rest up for a couple days. We have only a week to walk so decided to begin from Valencia/Tui to Santiago. What would be the best way to get there? Train, bus or fly? Should we book accomadations for that time of year on the Camino?

www.rome2rio.com will show you different ways tomget to Valenca. And the municipal albergue is great, and won't take reservations. Unless you arrive in Valenca late in the evening you should not have trouble fimding a bed. This is a very touristy town, and if Valenca fails, cross the bridge to Tui and all its albergues.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi.
I recommend the ALSA (bus) or the CP (train).

LISBON to VALENÇA:

Bus:
ALSA (Sete Rios bus station)
https://www.alsa.es/
[Lisbon 07h30 - Valença 14h45]
https://www.alsa.es/horarios-autobu....portlet.action=searchJourneysActionSchedules

Train:
Lisbon-Porto-Braga (If you start in Lisbon, you need to change trains in the city of Porto (CampanhĂŁ train station) or Nine train station).
https://www.cp.pt/StaticFiles/Passageiros/horarios/horarios/PDF/ap_ic/ap_ic.pdf

Porto-Valença
https://www.cp.pt/StaticFiles/Passageiros/horarios/horarios/PDF/r_ir_uc/porto_valenca.pdf

When I check these schedules it appears that nothing coincides. Any suggestions to get to Porto in morning then to Tui mid afternoon.

Try train from Lisboa Oriente to Porto Campanha. There are several that arrive at Porto in the AM. The last one that will work is 1000 - 1244.

Then Tram (line E) from Porto Campanha to Porto Airport. You have 1 hour.

Then Autna bus from Porto Airport to Valenca 1345 - 1505

Hi, the daily Alsa bus departs (Portugal) Oriente Lisboa at 07:45, and arrives in (Portugal) Valenca at 14:45, or in (Spain) Tuy at 15:50.

arrives in (Portugal) Valenca at 14:45, or in (Spain) Tuy at 15:50.

P.S. There is a one hour time difference between Portugal and Spain. It takes only 5 minutes to cross the bridge between Valenca and Tuy, a bit longer if you walk across :)
Jill

All settled. Thank you all. We will fly to Porto, then take bus from airport. Quicker and we will be well rested to begin our Camino the next day.

If you walk to Tui on the camino from Valenca do Minho which was the old frontier you pass through a spendid a 17thc fortress designed by Vauban and then cross the river Minho on the 19th c International bridge designed by Eiffel. The view to Tui as the lights come on at dusk is splendid!
Within the fortress the camino passes through the garden of the pousada/hotel Sao Teotonio. Stop at their outdoor bar to sip a coffee or more, relax and admire that panoramic view.

Bom caminho and Buen caminho!
