Camino Portugués - in planning for 2024
Hello

I’m flying into Biarritz Airport and then taking a bus / train to SJPDP to start my Camino.

I’d like to purchase a train ticket from Bayonne to SJPDP in advance, so was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of how long it currently takes to get through the airport?

I will only have hand luggage and be arriving at 09:15 on Saturday 21 May.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve -
I will be doing the same thing but I'm arriving this Saturday. I plan to buy the tickets when I get there as it all looks very straightforward. Any particular reason you are buying them in advance? And I should be considering that as well?
Thanks!

Hi Mark, my thinking was if I had paid for e-ticket on phone it would be one less thing for me to do. All I'd need to do would be to get the station and board the train.

Hi Steve
I don't know how familiar you are with Biarritz airport but it is really small and there are not that many flights a day. I don't know about the covid situation but I have been to Biarritz many times, not just to head up to SJPDP and it has never taken me more than 30 minutes to clear the airport.
Buen Camino

It took me less than 15 minutes 2018, small airport, walk off plane to waiting bus/cab in no time at all and I flew with a full plane. No worries.

Flew in 2021, so there were Covid-related checks upon landing. I was at the back of the plane and two planes landed at the same time. Plus, we were an international flight, so even more checks! So worst case scenario and we were still through in less than 30 minutes! 😎

Take note, though, that you’ll need to either catch the bus or grab a taxi to get from the airport to the train station.

We went through the airport in Biarritz two weekends ago and were out the door in less than 10 minutes. We went through Paris, so all the entry requirements were handled there, though. We were starting the Norte, so chose to walk into Bayonne instead of taking a taxi and that was straightforward hour and a half walk.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I’ve just booked my flight from Bristol to Biarritz, and have booked the Express Bourricot to take me to SJPdP. They say they pick up 30 mins after a plane lands, but I’m a bit worried as I am checking my rucksack in the hold as I am carrying walking poles. Will 30 mins be enough time to get through passport control and pick my rucksack up?

It is a TINY airport - 30 minutes should work as it is extremely rare (if ever) that two planes would land simultaneously. Take a look at Google maps and you’ll see that from plane to curb is a very short distance. Express Bouricott knows the schedule better than any of us, so if it works for them, then it’ll work for you.

My recollection of buying the train/bus transfer ticket is that it can only be done at the station's ticket office.
I don't know about the bus - but I just purchased train tickets for myself and my daughter online. For me - in late May - I am still having to take the "detoured" train where I have to change trains on the way to SJPDP due to whatever rail work they are doing. For my daughter - a month later - I was able to buy the direct ticket from Bayonne to SJPDP.
