My wife and I are planning to start from Roncesvalles but the plane arrives in Biarritz at 1445. Any suggestions on how to get to Roncesvalles and probable time involved?

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
You will need to take the train to SJPdP, then a bus or taxi to Roncesvalles. The bus will commence operation on March 17. There is one run daily at 1915.

Thank you are we likely to be able to get t St Jean by 1915 ? (having landed at 1445 )

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Not too likely. There are trains from Bayonne at 1455 and 1806. They take 1:25. So you will miss the 1455, and the 1806 arrives just after the bus leaves. A taxi will be barely more than two fares on the bus, though; thirty or forty Euro I would guess.

Did you mean to say Bayonne as we arrive into Biaritz?

The airport is Biarritz. The train station is Bayonne. You can get from the airport to the station on a local bus or taxi.

ONe stop shopping: Contact Caroline at Express Bourricot. ( www.expressbourricot.com )
She will pick you up at Biarritz and get you to Roncesvalles. She has a van that she charges a flat fee for, but she then scours the airport for extra pilgrims and divides the cost up accordingly. I think its around 80 euros now, but it fits 8 people. Much cheaper than bus, train and taxi. Tell her where and when and I'm sure she'll be able to help or advise. And its about an hour ride from Biarritz to StJPP, don't know how much longer to Roncesvalles.

Maybe I missed it but what day are you flying in at 1445? That is my arrival time at Biarritz airport on April 7. I am stay in SJPP that night so I am interested in how to get there also.

Biarritz Airport has bus service to Gare Biarritz, Pamplona, and San Sebastian. There is urban bus service from Pamplona to Roncesvalles. There is train service from Gare Biarritz to Irun/Hendaye, San Sebastian, and Pamplona.

Last bus to Roncesvalles leaves Pamplona bus station at 1800.

Last bus from San Sebastian that will get you to Pamplona on time leaves at 1600 and arrives 1700. The next one leaves at 1715 and arrives 1815. The PESA bus leaves from BIQ at 1530 and arrives in San Sebastian at 1615 ... Perhaps you can get a taxi to San Sebastian but otherwise you're not going to make it. (RometoRio site suggests 90 euro and 46 minutes) (and its still very tight for time).

Renfe train leaves Irun 1555 and arrive 1752 ... leaving 8 minutes to get to the Pamplona bus station. Train and bus station are close but not that close. And I haven't figured out how to get to Irun in time to catch the train other than taxi.

As pointed out earlier you can go the Biarritz to Bayonne to SJPdP to Roncesvalles but there is only one bus per day from SJPdP and the train from Bayonne leaves at 1810 ... and arrives SJPdP 1931 ... to late for the 1915 departure. (Check the SNCF TER site for TER#62)

So your choices as I see it are: to take a taxi from Biarritz airport to San Sebastian bus station; take taxi from SJPdP to Roncesvalles; take a taxi from Pamplona to Roncesvalles; or, take the public transit and spend a night in Pamplona before catching the bus to Roncesvalles in the morning.

Option 1.

Take route C Chronoplus bus from Airport to Gare Biarritz. Take SNCF train from Gare Biarritz to Irun/Hendaye. Or take Transdev bus from BIQ to Hendaye (hourly). Euskotren commuter rail from Irun/Hendaye to San Sebastian (every half hour).

Or take bus service from Biarritz airport to San Sebastian bus station.

There is frequent bus service provided by ALSA from San Sebastian to Pamplona. The bus station is located a couple of blocks from Amara Euskotren station. Time of bus is 1:00 - 1:30 depending on schedule.

Option 2

Take route C Chronoplus bus from Airport to Gare Biarritz. Then take SNCF train to Irun or Hendaye. Take Renfe train to Pamplona. Euskotren provides commuter service between Hendaye and Irun train station (and on to San Sebastian) if your Renfe and SNCF trains don't meet up. (3km)

Option 3

Take bus direct from Airport to Pamplona. Service twice per day.

Option 4

Urban bus #14 connects to Gare Bayonne where you can take the train to SJPdP. Take taxi to Roncesvalles. (RometoRio suggests taxi cost is 55 euro)

Pamplona to Roncesvalles:

Urban bus service to Roncesvalles is provided by Autocares Artieda and departs from Estacion de Autobuses de Pamplona. Note it does not operate on Sundays.

Taxi from Pamplona to Roncesvalles (RometoRio suggests taxi cost is 40 euro)

Condensed version with arrival 1445 BIQ to Roncesvalle (main advantage is you get to Pamplona before train leaves Bayonne to SJPdP:

Take Transdev ATCRB bus from BIQ airport to Hendaia train station. 1458 - 1558 (runs hourly)

Take Euskotren from Hendaia to San Sebastian/Donostia - Amara station 1603 - 1640 (runs every half hour)

Walk two blocks from Amara station to San Sebastian bus station. (see a google map)

Or - The PESA bus leaves from BIQ at 1530 and arrives in San Sebastian bus station at 1615

Take ALSA bus (Conda is probably service provider) from San Sebastian bus station to Pamplona 1715 - 1815 (runs frequently)

Since last bus leaves Pamplona to Roncesvalles at 1800, take taxi to Roncesvalles - estimate 40 euro

Or - Stay the night in Pamplona and catch the Autocares Artieda bus to Roncesvalles next day 1600 - 1710.

Hi there, we are arriving at Angelet on Sunday 28th sept at 2.45 pm and need to get to Pamplona - I see that there is a direct bus at 8.15 pm . Is that our best option , I would be grateful for your advice.

While I do not see Angelet on the ALSA bus schedule, the buses from Bayonne to Pamplona on Sunday are at 0400 (62.75E fare), 0415 (62.75E), and 1600 (17.75E) currently (ALSA has not published service intention beyond June, yet).

Thank you falcon269, I will check when ALSA publish their schedule,I have also posted a message for express bourricott so will wait and see

Express Bourricot does not go from France to Spain, so you cannot get to Pamplona on them. It is a licensing thing. They can get you from Bayonne/Biarritz to SJPdP, though, and take the ALSA bus from there to Pamplona.

Ok , I think our best option is the bus from Bayonne then.thanks again

The direct bus is probably the easiest however You can get to Pamplona probably by 1800 using other services.

*I note discrepancy on the BIQ website for the EDSA bus from airport to Pamplona. Departure is 1815 on the french version and 0815 PM on the english version. I'd refer to the EDSA website if you choose this option.

There is bus service and train service from Irun.

There is frequent (pretty much hourly) bus service from San Sebastian.

To get from Anglet airport (BIQ) to Hendaye:

-a. Take ATCRB bus from airport to Gare d'Hendaye.

-b. Take chronoplus bus line C to Gare Biarritz. From Biarritz take SNCF TGV train to Irun or SNCF TER to Hendaye

To get from Hendaye to Irun:

Take Euskotren from Hendaye to Irun to catch Renfe train or bus to Pamplona

To get from Hendaye or Irun to San Sebastian

Continue journey with Euskotren to San Sebastian (Amara) to catch a bus to Pamplona. The bus station in San Sebstian is located outdoors at Plaza Pio XII about 700 meters south from Amara station.

PESA provides bus service from Airport BIQ to San Sebastian at 1530.

La Burundesa provides bus service from Irun Renfe Station to Pamplona once daily. See ALSA schedule.

ALSA provides bus service from San Sebastian to Pamplona on almost hourly basis. The bus will likely have Conda colours.

Summary: ... probably the easiest options (depending on timings) are:

If you can get clear of airport in time ... take PESA bus 1530 to San Sebastian. Then catch ALSA bus from San Sebastian to Pamplona.

If not - take C bus to Gare Biarritz. Take train to Hendaye or Irun. Take Euskotren to San Sebastian. Take ALSA bus from San Sebastian to Pamplona.
