Bike boxes at Santiago airport stopped.

I don't know when this happened, but the bike boxes they used to do at Santiago airport have stopped. The tourist office are once again correct about this and can tell you where to buy a box. It's at Correos (Post Office), round the corner from them. They refuse to give you any tape unless you are posting the bike. There is a hardware shop that has tape, not quite in the centre, but a short walk away. A fellow tourist turned up at the airport and then asked me about the box. He was lucky that he was going a few days later. When I arrived at Dublin airport there was 2 bikes, not in any boxes, in front of mine. I wonder did they get caught out over boxes.

I had to buy some bubble wrap in Santiago a few weeks ago and went to Mail Boxes, Etc. It’s near the Plaza Galicia, on Calle Santiago de Guayaquil. They had four or five bikes in various stages of being packed up and readied for shipment. I have no idea what their prices are, but it may be worth checking out. They are extremely nice there — insisted that I take a roll of their wrapping tape with me even though I kept telling them I didn’t need it.

There used to be a very friendly and helpful bike shop on the way into Santiago (via Frances) but apparently they closed down about a year ago. Such a pity as I have very fond memories of their assistance in 2015. Anyone know of another bike shop in Santiago??

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Found a bike shop south of the city near the Uni area, but Google throws up plenty. If only a box is needed perhaps Correos will sell one, they seem to charge separately for box and delivery.

Yes Correos sell the boxes for e13 to take away. No tape if you are not posting it. It is easier using this box than a cycle shop one. Either way you will need a taxi to the airport.

Advice please ? I’m starting from Sevilla 19/5 on my bicycle and would like to know if I have to book bike packing & posting at Correos in Santiago in advance or just rock up? I’m hoping to leave my bike to follow me home and fly back - can’t cope with it on a self transfer in Marseille!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-

Looks like you can pre-purchase but in my limited experience boxes have been available (twice) in Santiago.

Have a good ride, it's gonna be warm at the start.... Richard
