Bilbao to León

I fly into Bilbao on 14th May landing at 13:10 local time. I want to get to León and it seems there is only one bus that day in the morning but there is a narrow-gauge train at 14:30 from Concordia.
1. what are my chances of catching that train?
2. what's the best (and quickest) way of getting to Concordia?
3. any other thoughts about betting to León that day?

many thanks,

David

Hi David,

Timewise it looks quite tight.

If you have your rucksack in the cabin and not in the hold you could be out of the airport at 1.30.
I would suggest a taxi to the station.

Queues at bustations and stations sometimes move with extraordinary slowness due to people not being able to speak Spanish.

The bus from the airport to bus station comes every half hour and takes about 20 minutes, but you could just miss a bus. its number is 3247. pay on bus

The train station is about 2 klm away from the bus station with the entrance (I think) on the opposite side.

A person who knewtheir way around Bilbao might be able to get a metro from station to station.

If you can buy your ticket online you would have a good chance of getting the train.

Have you considered getting the bus to Burgos staying the night there and getting an early bus next day to Leon. There is a bus at 6.35 arriving Leon at 8.45. I suggest you buy ticket the night before, or buy it online.

Buen Camino

Lydia, I've just searched for the Burgos-León bus you mentioned but have not been able to find it. Do you have a web site for it?

Hi David,

I really did see it, but I do not know what date I put in.

Have searched today putting in 15th May and the only one that turns up is the 10.30.

Seems a bit strange to me that there would be only one bus in a full day from Burgos to Leon.

Sorry I cannot be of more help,

regards,
Lydai

These prices do not include administrative costs (1.03 € for national tickets less than 10 €, 2.60 € for national tickets above 10 € and 1.00 € for international tickets).

Looks like there are mainly 3 bus runs from Burgos to Leon.
There may be other lines - this was from the ALSA site.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

You can take the Alsa bus (http://www.alsa.es) at 15:00 hrs to Burgos (arr. 16:45), and connect with the Eurobus at 17:25 to Leon (arr. 19:25) :)
