Hi, I will be starting my camino journey on October 2 and will be finishing November 1, I have a sleeping bag that is rated to 5 degrees celsius. Will that be sufficient or do I need to purchase a warmer sleeping bag, are blankets available in all refugios? Regards Erica
Even in regular years blankets aren't available in all albergues or often aren't enough. I'd go with what you have and put on a layer or two of clothes in the night if needs be.
I agree with John. No need to buy a new sleeping bag. Often, the alburgues are warm if they are full, simply from body heat. If you get cold, put on more layers
hello Erica,
If in the end you do decide you need more warmth, consider taking a fleece blanket to put inside your bag. It weighs nothing and gives extra warmth.
But in November you probably should have a fleece vest or jacket (as well as your rain jacket) and maybe a light (silk? or synthetic) pair of long johns. It could be quite cold, especially in the early morning. These would be great for sleeping in and prevent extra bulk.
Buen camino

I walked starting in early March. I had a lightweight inexpensive sleeping bag (I don't know the temperature rating but it can not have been made for very cold temps). I never had a problem...I rarely needed a blanket but when I did they were available. A friend joined me later in the walk and only brought a sleeping bag liner and she always found blankets available.
My first camino I started out March 27th and was very cold for many nights. My sleeping bag was rated to 5 degrees C but that must have been for eskimos. I used as many blankets as the albergues had available (extras, I made sure not to take blankets that others might want), sometimes 3! Being cold is miserable, so better to err on the side of warmth - you can always unzip and stick your arms & legs out if needed!
